The Denver Broncos’ treatment of quarterback Russell Wilson may end up costing them dearly in 2024 free agency, according to a prominent NFL insider.
Earlier this week, the Broncos announced that they were benching the two-time Pro Bowler for their final two regular season games in favor of Jarrett Stidham. Wilson confirmed to reporters on Friday that they did this because he wouldn’t adjust the injury guarantees in his contract.
Speaking on “SportsCenter”, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler stated that some NFL agents believe the Broncos may “have to overpay for free agents” due to head coach Sean Payton’s handling of the Wilson saga.
It’s indeed a bad look for a Broncos team that remains alive in the postseason race (7-8). Not to mention they handed Wilson a $245 million extension ahead of the 2022 regular season.
At this point, it seems rather obvious that the Broncos are preparing to move on from the future Hall of Famer. If that ends up happening, Denver fans can only hope that Payton and company get it right with their next QB move.
