Bill Belichick will likely soon land a lucrative contract from another NFL team looking to fill its head coaching vacancy, but he’ll also receive a generous secondary income on the side.
Belichick and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft agreed to part ways after a disappointing 4-13 season, the Pats’ worst finish since the 1992 squad that went 2-14. Belichick officially said goodbye to the organization in a press conference with Kraft at his side.
As noted by the ML Football X/Twitter account, the Patriots will be paying Belichick a whopping $68,000 a day in 2024 to not even work for them:
Per the Boston Globe, Belichick’s salary for 2024 was believed to be around $25 million. Divide that by 365 days, and Belichick’s daily pay is just under $68,500. Indeed, it’s a nice chunk of cash for a guy who’s no longer working for the organization.
Belichick and the Patriots had always been tight-lipped about his contract details with the club (salary, length, etc.). But given his legendary status, his role as the de facto general manager and the longevity with the franchise, the $25 million salary seems like a reasonable price.
Belichick walks away from New England with six Super Bowl rings, nine AFC championships and 17 AFC East division crowns. The Patriots didn’t have a single losing season from 2001 to 2019 in the Belichick-Tom Brady era, either.
