On Monday, it was reported that the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers might be leading the field in the race to acquire Baker Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Well, the Saints took themselves off that list when they signed Jameis Winston back to the team.
And it looks like Baker won’t be heading to the Carolina Panthers either, per Will Kunkel of Fox Charlotte.
Carolina has Sam Darnold on the roster at quarterback and if the team thinks he is better than Baker Mayfield, then that tells you where the 2018 first-overall pick’s stock is at right now.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on March 17 the Indianapolis Colts were among the teams which Mayfield would want to play for. However, the Colts have since traded for Matt Ryan.
The Browns’ acquisition of Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans has all but sealed Mayfield’s exit from Cleveland, but he is running out of places to go. Not only that, but Jimmy G still needs a new home as well.
