Andy Reid isn’t thinking about retiring right now; not with an unprecedented Super Bowl threepeat within his grasp.
The Kansas City Chiefs head coach is now expected to become the highest-paid coach in football as he is reportedly set to begin discussions on a new contract this week, per NFL.com.
Reid has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins since 2018 and, if anyone is deserving of the title of “highest-paid,” it’s him.
Chiefs GM Brett Veach is also reported to be in line for a new deal, with both men set to receive raises on the last two years of the contracts they signed in 2019. The Chiefs have won two more Super Bowls since then, having recently become the first team to win back-to-back championships since the 2003-04 New England Patriots.
While there’s been lots of speculation over a possible departure, Reid doesn’t appear keen to walk away from the game just yet, especially given the opportunity to set himself apart as the only threepeat coach in history. He confirmed as much after the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers on February 11.
Reid, while the most successful HC of the current era, is ranked eighth in average annual contract value. Veach is also believed to be one of the lowest-paid GMs in the league.
