Aldon Smith pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two felony charges of driving under the influence, according to TMZ Sports.
Earlier this month, the former NFL defensive end had been arrested following a car crash in San Mateo County, California where prosecutors allege his blood alcohol content exceeded .20, more than double the legal limit of .08.
Not only that, Smith allegedly told another person at the scene he “cannot have cops there” and offered $1,000 to the person to leave the scene of the crash.
More details, via TMZ:
“Prosecutors just revealed more details surrounding Smith’s arrest … saying the NFL star had weed in his pocket and empty bottles of rum and vodka in his car.
Officials added that when cops arrived, Smith “refused to submit to field sobriety tests and refused to take a test.”
The officials also noted the person that Smith had hit was suffering from pain in his back, wrist, knee, leg and foot.”
As you know, Smith is no stranger to breaking the law as he was arrested in 2013 and 2015 on suspicion of DUI. Shortly after the second arrest, he was suspended from the NFL for one year for violating the league’s policy on substances of abuse.
At every turn, Smith continued to turn his own NFL career upside down with his actions off the field. The 32-year-old missed the next four seasons, returning with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and starting all 16 games for the team.
