The San Francisco 49ers are surely looking to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo and improve one of their weakest positions on the team.
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora noted on the network’s Super Bowl LV pre-game coverage that the 49ers are among the teams “very interested” in acquiring Watson from the Houston Texans, should the team change their mind and look to move him.
“Deshaun Watson, he still badly wants out of Houston,” said La Canfora. “The Texans are telling teams, ‘We’re not trading him.’ That could change by the draft. I can tell you, the 49ers, the Panthers (are) among the teams very interested in Deshaun Watson, as are the Jets.”
La Canfora added that Sam Darnold could be moved as well and could possibly end up on the 49ers.
“Sources tell me 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan (is) very high on Sam Darnold,” adds La Canfora. “If that’s a match, follow me here, the 49ers would be trading Jimmy Garoppolo, and sources tell me Bill Belichick would love to have a Jimmy G reunion in New England.”
Watson wants out of Houston due to mismanagement in the front office that first allowed Bill O’Brien to trade DeAndre Hopkins. Then the owner of the team outright lied to Watson’s face about him having a say-so in the GM and head coaching process.

As far as Sam Darnold goes, the New York Jets are expected to go for a quarterback as multiple teams have been calling about the availability of the 23-year-old.
