Last week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance replaced Jimmy Garoppolo in the first quarter against the Lions and wasted no time throwing a touchdown.
Following the game, the veteran QB was asked about Fox analyst Mark Sanchez comment on him hugging Lance after the TD and how “those aren’t easy hugs to give.”
“He’s not wrong,” Garoppolo said, “No, it is what it is type of situation. It’s one of those; we had a good drive, marched down there. Kyle called the package, and he’s the head coach. Whatever he calls, goes. Just one of those things, you can only control what you can control. I’m out there with my boys, making the best of it, having a good time. At the end of the day, we’re playing football, trying to get a win. Whatever it takes. It is what it is, you know?”
“It’s kind of one of those situations where, I know the guys in the locker room. They know me. I know where I stand with them. At the end of the day, that’s what really matters. As long as those guys got my back, I’ve got no problem doing whatever it takes to win. I don’t know, this league is crazy how things happen. You’ve just got to roll with the punches kind of, and let the chips fall as they may that the end. You know, we’ll see where everything is at the end.”
It’s no secret that Jimmy G will be replaced by Trey Lance at some point, either this year or in 2022.
NFL analyst John Middlekauff believes there are two destinations for Jimmy G to head to moving forward:
- Washington
- New York

“I actually think he makes a lot of sense for both franchises,” he said earlier this week on The Volume.
Washington has had a carousel of quarterbacks for years that needs addressing. The New York Giants still have hope in Daniel Jones, but he remains a turnover machine who only seems to be good against Washington and nobody else in the league.
Garoppolo threw for 314 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.
