Jimmy Garoppolo may finally be on the move.
According to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the 49ers have received at least one significant trade offer for the veteran quarterback. However, it appears the team may hold out for an even better offer.
“As we hear it, 49ers G.M. John Lynch is telling interested teams that he has an offer in hand of two second-round picks for Garoppolo, a player the team acquired in 2017 for one second-round pick. (At least one interested team reacted to the news, we’re told, by concluding that, if the 49ers have two first-round picks for Garoppolo, they should take it.),” he reports.
There have been rumors that the Indianapolis Colts may be high on the list of Jimmy G, but they could also make a run for Matt Ryan as well.
Waiting and hoping to get a better offer is the reason why Jimmy G has not been moved as many teams have filled the position. Waiting even longer could have the Niners with Jimmy G on the roster in 2022 and riding the bench behind Trey Lance.
The San Francisco 49ers’ 2021 season ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game. At that point, trade rumors involving 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo ramped up.
This past season, Garoppolo passed for 3,810 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 15 games. He’s proved he can lead a team to success, and he will almost certainly end up in a starting role once he’s out of San Francisco.
