Two-time Super Bowl champion Shaq Barrett is reportedly looking to unretire after calling curtains on his career earlier this year.
Barrett signed with the Miami Dolphins back in March but shockingly announced his retirement in July. The Dolphins still hold his contract rights.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who cites his agents, the linebacker has applied for immediate reinstatement.
“Former Pro-Bowl LB Shaq Barrett, who announced his retirement from the NFL in July, has applied to be reinstated to play immediately, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. Barrett is coming out of retirement. The Dolphins currently hold Barrett’s contractual rights,” the insider reported on Tuesday.

Barkley won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He really came into form in Tampa, where he led the league with a remarkable 19.5 sacks en route to Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2019.

Shaq Barret Might Want A Move Elsewhere Despite Signing With Miami This year
With the Dolphins on a nice run, having won three straight games to improve to 5-6 amid Tua Tagovaiola’s resurgence and setting themselves up for a shot at a wildcard spot, Barrett is now looking to return.
He might ask the team to release him, however, with the Baltimore Ravens suggested as a destination, given that he hails from Maryland and the fact that they would offer him a better chance at winning.
Barrett should have plenty to offer a team as he’s only just turned 32 and has been mostly healthy throughout his career, though he did play just eight games in 2022 due to a torn Achilles tendon.
