Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn could be on the radar of two NFL teams that may need a new head coach in 2024, according to a new report.
Quinn was a big name in the 2022 and 2023 NFL head coaching hiring cycle, but he ultimately stayed with the Cowboys. The ex-Atlanta Falcons head coach has turned in another excellent year under Mike McCarthy, as Dallas ranks fifth in yards allowed and eighth in scoring defense.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks could be potential landing spots for the 53-year-old:
“Most folks would tell you Mike McCarthy has had a really good year in Dallas. But count this as another year during which he probably needs to look good in the playoffs to be safe, especially with the prospect that Dan Quinn could actually bolt (Chargers? Seahawks, if [sic] Pete Caroll were to retire?) this time around.”
The Chargers fired head coach Brandon Staley after a 5-9 start and will need a new head coach this year. They’ve been linked to Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh, but there’s speculation that ownership is reluctant to pay top dollar for a marquee head coach.
Carroll, who turned 72 years of age in September, is the oldest head coach in the NFL right now. Quinn was Seattle’s defensive coordinator under Carroll in 2013 and 2014, helping the Seahawks to consecutive NFC Championships and a Super Bowl 48 title.

So if Carroll leaves, the Seahawks could very well look to a place of familiarity. Plus, the Seahawks’ defense has gotten worse and worse in the post-Legion of Boom era, so a defensive-minded genius like Quinn could be the answer there if Carroll walks away.
