Two networks are reportedly competing for the rights to air NFL Christmas Day games this upcoming season.
This year, Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday. The NFL, of course, only plays games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays under special circumstances. But it has already been announced that two NFL Christmas Day games will be played on Wednesday this year.
Citing source, John Ourand of Puck News reports that Netflix is the favorite to land the broadcasting rights for the two 2024 NFL Christmas games. That isn’t finalized, however, as Ourand also reported that Amazon submitted a late bid for the rights for the two contests.
The NFL agreed to a massive 11-year media rights contract with NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC/ESPN and Amazon. The first four networks were already TV partners with NFL, but Amazon Prime Video joined the party after securing the rights to “Thursday Night Football”, as FOX decided not to renew the package.
The full 2024 NFL regular season schedule will be released on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. EST on NFL Network. Several games have already been announced, including the Baltimore Ravens-Kansas City Chiefs NFL Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 5.
