Brock Purdy left Sunday’s 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the first quarter after a blow to his right elbow on San Francisco’s first possession.
A hit by Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick would force Purdy to the sideline for the rest of the first half. He threw some passes on the sideline, but it appeared he would be finished for the day.
The 49ers replaced Purdy with Josh Johnson, their fourth-string quarterback, but then he would be forced out of the game with a concussion after halftime.
Purdy would be forced back in, but unable to really throw the ball at all. That was something that upset Reggie Bush.
The former NFL running back blasted the rookie for not playing with his injury.
“I don’t care if the QB has a damn injury it’s the NFC Championship he better start throwing left fu–ing handed then we don’t have time for boo boos! Pat Mahomes was on one leg last week and he still got the job done”

As we know now, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy sustained a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow and will need surgery, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.
The hope for him now is that he does not need a complete reconstruction of the ligament in the form of Tommy John surgery. A repair rather than a reconstruction could allow Purdy to return in time for training camp next season.
Bush clearly did not know this at the time, but we can suspect that Purdy knew he wasn’t right, so blasting him wasn’t the way to go.
The injury marked a crushing end for his rookie year, where he previously led the 49ers to a 7-0 record as a starter in relief of Garoppolo, whose season ended in Week 13 because of a foot fracture.
The last pick of last April’s NFL Draft definitely overachieved.
