Reggie Bush has revealed the reason the Houston Texans passed up on him in 2006, and it’s pretty embarrassing.
Given the advent of NIL, the violations that cost the former running back his Heisman Trophy look even more unfair. And, according to him, he also missed out on going No. 1 in the NFL Draft as a result.
Speaking on the ‘Dan Patrick Show’ this Wednesday, Bush spilled the beans on why Houston let him fall to the New Orleans Saints at No. 2 overall.
The former USC Star revealed having been told by the team’s former GM, Charley Casserly, that they hired a private investigator to look into his affairs, which resulted in his name getting dragged through the mud behind closed doors.
“You want to know the truth? The truth is Charley Casserly,” he said. “He hasn’t talked about it. We actually had the opportunity to discuss it when I was working for NFL Network because one of the executives found out the truth…
Apparently, it was because they hired a private investigator to investigate me during the Heisman Trophy debacle that was happening at the time, and the investigator came back and said that I was a bad guy, I had bad character, I was a street kid, and that they shouldn’t sign me.”
While Reggie hasn’t succeeded in having his Heisman reinstated, the move to New Orleans worked out for him as he won a Super Bowl with the team. Thankfully, not all NFL teams took the view the Texans did, and they must regret it now.
