It’s a reality that NFL officials are going to miss calls during the course of a game. However, when multiple missed calls all go one way, fans watching the game take notice.
Such was the case on Sunday night when the Bengals faced off against the Chiefs. In the fourth quarter alone of Sunday’s Bengals vs. Chiefs AFC championship, there were many questionable calls, non-calls, a confusing error, and missed penalties that all went the Chiefs’ way.
One of the biggest ones was the Chiefs’ getting two third down plays.
The next biggest one was an argument that officials missed a block in the back on Skyy Moore’s 29-yard punt return to set up the Chiefs’ game-winning field goal.
Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker drilled the game-winning 45-yard field goal with three seconds left on the clock after Cincinnati defensive end Joseph Ossai was called for unnecessary roughness after a late hit on Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The officiating in the NFL has been one of the top storylines of the 2022 season for the inconsistency throughout the year. It has not gotten better for the playoffs and it might be that way for the final and most important game of the year.
While the referees didn’t cost the Bengals the game, they played a bigger part in their loss than officials ever should.
Fans are not tuning in to watch refs not do their job correctly. The league will surely need to address these issues this offseason.
Do we as fans expect any different next year? Absolutely not.
