The Washington Redskins seriously screwed themselves.
During the 2020 NFL Draft, the team finally parted ways with disgruntled superstar left tackle Trent Williams when they sent him packing to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round pick.
Kevin Sheehan of “the 980” spoke to head coach Ron Rivera about the move and he actually revealed the franchise was offered a first-round pick for Williams last season, but didn’t take it.
It was reported back them that the New England Patriots were one of the teams that people believed were willing to throw a first-round pick to the Skins for Williams but nothing ever came of it.
You cannot blame Rivera in this scenario as he was not the head coach at the time. Getting a third and a fifth-rounder for one of the best offensive linemen in football is a huge blunder on the part of the Redskins.
Washington ultimately used their fifth-round pick in 2020 on center/guard Keith Ismael.
