Earl Thomas released a damning statement on Wednesday night announcing that he would be on TMZ following a domestic violence incident with his wife, Nina.
As it turned out, Thomas had a gun pulled out on him after his wife allegedly caught him cheating at an Airbnb. Her behavior got her arrested and charged with burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and released on $25,000 bond.
Thomas did not get arrested, but he could end up losing much more. According to this report from The Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are now looking into whether Thomas violated the terms of his contract and may look to voiding his deal.
“According to a team official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the Ravens are looking into the incident to determine whether Earl Thomas’ conduct violated his contract, which runs through 2022. The official said there were times last season when Ravens coaches thought Thomas strayed from their team concept, and that his struggles grasping the defense’s schemes in the secondary sometimes put him at odds with teammates.”
In 2020, Thomas will earn a base salary of $10,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $15,000,000 and a dead cap value of $25,000,000.
The 31-year-old accounted for 49 tackles, four passes defended and two interceptions in his first season with the Ravens.
