It’s so sad to see, these guys definitely deserved a Super Bowl. Truly sad we never got to see it.
The quarterback is the leader of every NFl team. They have the responsibility of knowing what every player has to do on offense every play. Great QBs are what separate the Super Bowl contenders to the bottom feeders.
It’s not often we see amazing QBs retire before becoming Super Bowl champions, but everyone now and then it happens. That is why we are going to go over The 15 Best Quarterbacks to Never Win a Super Bowl.
15. Carson Palmer
Palmer certainly isn’t going down as one of the greatest at his position but he definitely had some seasons where his team could have won it all. In the 2015 season he led the Cardinals to a 13-3 record while finishing second in the MVP race.
The season would end after a loss in the NFC Championship where Palmer threw one touchdown and four interceptions.
14. Matt Ryan

One of the most iconic Super Bowls ever Matt Ryan and the Falcons had a 28-3 lead over the Patriots with 17 minutes remaining. Of course the rest is history as New England would win the game in overtime.
This all happened in the same season Ryan won MVP and OPOY.
13. Michael Vick
Vick is a polarizing figure in NFL history due to his history but there’s no denying he was electric when on the field. He was the first QB to ever rush for 1000 yards in a season when he accomplished the feat in 2006.
If the Falcons were able to surround him with talent in the early 2000s there’s certainly a scenario where he wins a Super Bowl.
12. Donovan McNabb
Yet another Eagles QB that fell through the cracks without winning a Super Bowl. Philadelphia simply couldn’t get it done despite McNabb having five seasons with at least 10 wins. In 2005 Donovan would have a shot at a ring but fell short to the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
11. Steve McNair
As the 2003 NFL MVP it was starting to look like McNair was finally going to have a chance at his first ring going up against the Rams in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately McNair was literally one yard short from the win as Kevin Dyson was tackled on the one yard line securing the Rams victory.
McNair would only reach the playoffs one more time in his career with the Baltimore Ravens.
10. Rich Gannon
Gannon had a relatively quiet career until 1999 when he made four straight pro bowls and won the 2002 MVP. That season was also Gannons best shot at a ring. The Raiders finished 11-5 which placed them first in the AFC West.
They’d make it all the way to the big game but end up losing 21-49 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
9. Cam Newton
While Newton isn’t officially retired from the NFL it is obvious he isn’t winning a Super Bowl as a team’s starter. It’s a shame he never got it done though because for a short stretch Cam was the face of football. His 2015 campaign was unbelievable leading the Panthers to a 15-1 record and winning MVP, and OPOY.
That same year Newton had a horrible performance in his one and only Super Bowl. He threw zero touchdowns while throwing one interception.
8. Warren Moon
At just over 49,000 career passing yards, Moon had an amazing career. He made the playoffs in seven different seasons but was never able to get past the Divisional round. He wasn’t necessarily bad either, throwing 17 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in 10 games.
7. Randall Cunningham
Cunningham saw himself play in 12 playoff games throughout his career and only went to a conference championship once. With 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions in those games he certainly wasn’t carrying his team through games.
6. Ken Anderson
In Anderson’s 16-year career with the Bengals he made four Pro Bowls, was named first team All-Pro once and was the 1981 MVP but never won the Super Bowl. He actually played in only six playoff games going 2-4 and even lost to the 49ers in the 1982 Super Bowl.
5. Dan Fouts
Look away Chargers fans because your organization once again wasted an opportunity at a championship. From 1979 – 1985 Fouts led the AFC in passing yards a game six different times.
A Fouts lead Chargers would make the AFC Championship twice but never advanced past that. He was also just the third player ever to surpass 40,000 career passing yards.
4. Fran Tarkenton
He may have thrown a lot of interceptions in his career but Tarkenton was still a phenomenal player. He’s actually known as one of the first mobile QBs in NFL history having 3674 career rushing yards. His performance in the playoff might show why he never got that ring.
In 14 games he threw just 12 touchdowns to a whopping 17 interceptions. He certainly wasn’t doing his team many favors.
3. Philip RIvers
If not for Rivers extreme loyalty to the Chargers no matter what city they were in Rivers might have a Super Bowl ring. With the Chargers lack of ability to put real talent around him in his playing days he never really got close.
What really puts things into perspective is the 2010 season. The Bolts had the number on offense and defense yet managed to miss the playoffs going 9-7.
2. Jim Kelly
Kelly is probably the craziest on this list considering he went to four straight Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills losing all of them. His 2:7 touchdown to interception ratio in those four games was less than ideal though.
1. Dan Marino
Just looking at the stats sheet you’d assume Marino had won at least one Super Bowl in his playing days. His best chance at a ring came in 1984, the same season he won MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
He would eventually lose to Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. He would never make it that far again.
