Seven weeks into the 2024 NFL season, the impact of coaching has never been more evident so much so that we have already seen some pink slips doled out.
It’s time to rank all 32 NFL head coaches from worst to first based on their team’s performance, decision-making, and ability to adapt through the first seven weeks of the season.
Who are the top-ranking head coaches in the NFL after week 7 of games?
32. Carolina Panthers – Dave Canales (Last Week #32)
Dave Canales has a lot of questions to answer after another disappointing loss. Committing to Andy Dalton over Bryce Young indicates a focus on stability, but it’s not translating to results. Canales needs to find a way to get the offense out of its slump and address whatever the heck is going on with that defense now.
31. Las Vegas Raiders – Antonio Pierce (Last Week #30)
Things are getting ugly fast for Antonio Pierce out in Sin City. He was super popular with the players last year as the interim, but it looks like he is falling out of favor fast, as this team can’t get on the same page.
30. New Orleans Saints – Dennis Allen (Last Week #25)

Dennis Allen’s frustration was palpable after another blowout loss, marking the Saints’ fifth straight defeat. Injuries have been a constant, but Allen knows his team needs to execute better.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars – Doug Pederson (Last Week #31)
Doug Pederson deserves credit for keeping his team focused despite falling behind 10-0 early, though, let’s face it, he had to. If he had let this one slip away against the lowly Patriots, he might not have been allowed on the team flight home after the game.
28. New England Patriots – Jerod Mayo (Last Week #29)
Coach Mayo didn’t mince words after the embarrassing loss across the pond, calling his team “soft.” It is clear that he is starting to feel the pressure in a big way.
27. Tennessee Titans – Brian Callahan (Last Week #27)
Brian Callahan has to be feeling the heat after the Titans dropped to 1-5, their worst start since 2015, in his first season.

26. Dallas Cowboys (bye) – Mike McCarthy (Last Week #28)
Jerry Jones continues to back Mike McCarthy, but with each humiliating loss, the seat continues to warm up beneath the Cowboys head coach.
25. New York Jets – Jeff Ulbrich (Last Week #22)
Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich will need to rally his team after their fourth straight loss. This team is reeling and is in danger of turning this into an entirely lost season.
24. Miami Dolphins – Mike McDaniel (Last Week #24)
Things are not looking good for Mike McDaniel, as his team fell to two and four this week, and his quarterback situation continues to spiral.
23. Cleveland Browns – Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #23)
Kevin Stefanski now faces a season-defining moment with Watson’s apparent season-ending injury. He has been freed of the anchor that was holding this team back and has a chance to prove that he was right to want to bench him all along as he tries to turn this season around.
22. Arizona Cardinals – Jonathan Gannon (Last Week #26)
The Cardinals fought hard on Monday night for Jonathan Gannon, but we are not sold on him as a head coach. Too often, this team seems out of sorts and needs to rely on Kyler’s magic to bail them out.
21. New York Giants – Brian Daboll (Last Week #21)
It is hard to judge Brian Daboll fairly with the disaster situation he has playing out at quarterback, but if he’s not able to turn this group around, he’ll find himself catching a pink slip from the Mara Family sooner rather than later.
20. Chicago Bears (bye) – Matt Eberflus (Last Week #18)
While Matt Eberflus still is not particularly popular in Chicago, the Bears head coach has his team playing much better football of late.
19. Philadelphia Eagles – Nick Sirianni (Last Week #20)
While he is still on the hot seat, at least in the eyes of Eagles fans, Nick Sirianni got the best out of his Birds on Sunday, as they moved to four and two after a convincing win over the Giants.
18. Los Angeles Rams – Sean McVay (Last Week #19)
Sean McVay’s team bounced back from a tough start to the season with a solid, all-around performance. McVay emphasized a strong defensive effort and a steady ground game, minimizing risks and capitalizing on turnovers while they still await the return of key players like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua from injuries.
17. Los Angeles Chargers – Jim Harbaugh (Last Week #12)
Jim Harbaugh has proven that he still belongs in the NFL ranks and has done a great job of turning around a Chargers organization that was spiraling under Brandon Staley’s leadership.
16. Cincinnati Bengals – Zac Taylor (Last Week #15)
Another positive sign for Coach Taylor is that this win was a crucial turning point for the Bengals as they look to build on it and continue climbing out of their early-season hole.
15. Atlanta Falcons – Raheem Morris (Last Week #7)
The Falcons were outplayed and outcoached, especially in the second half, when they couldn’t find a way to rally behind Raheem Morris.
14. Seattle Seahawks – Mike Macdonald (Last Week #17)
Mike Macdonald finally got his defense going this week, which was a must considering his pedigree and how bad they have been thus far in his first season as a head coach.
13. San Francisco 49ers – Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #8)
Kyle Shanahan faced an uphill battle, with key injuries impacting his game plan. Though he did well to keep his team competitive, his team fell apart down the stretch, and they lost, falling to three and four.
12. Buffalo Bills – Sean McDermott (Last Week #14)
McDermott’s decision to stay aggressive and lean on the newly acquired Amari Cooper paid off, as the Bills outscored the Titans 24-0 in the second half en route to an easy win.
11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Todd Bowles (Last Week #9)
While fans and analysts alike have often questioned Bowles’s game management decisions, and to be fair, he has had some head-scratchers in crucial moments, this Buccaneers team seems to love playing for him, and they are largely thriving under his leadership.
10. Indianapolis Colts – Shane Steichen (Last Week #13)
Shane Steichen’s play-calling wasn’t perfect, and he acknowledged that the team needs to finish drives with touchdowns better, but he did well to set Richardson up for success in his return.
9. Denver Broncos – Sean Payton (Last Week #16)
Who would’ve thought? Sean Payton looks like he is finally turning it around in Denver. He has the Broncos above .500 and is in fighting shape for an AFC Wild Card.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers – Mike Tomlin (Last Week #11)
Mike Tomlin’s decision to start Russell Wilson over Justin Fields raised eyebrows, but it paid off in a big way, as it looks like Pittsburgh might now be capable of making that step from good to great.
7. Houston Texans – DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #4)
DeMeco Ryans faced a challenging game, dealing with a depleted roster and a struggling passing attack, and his team did well to pivot, but they ultimately came up short.
6. Washington Commanders – Dan Quinn (Last Week #10)
Dan Quinn kept his team focused after losing their starting quarterback, leaning on the defense to create momentum and allowing Mariota to manage the offense effectively en route to the blowout win.
5. Minnesota Vikings – Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #1)
While his team came up just short on Sunday, you won’t find a long line of critics outside of Kevin O’Connell’s door this week. He has done a spectacular job with this young Vikings team and the reclamation project, which is Sam Darnold at quarterback. Sometimes, unfortunately, another good coach just gets the best of you!
4. Green Bay Packers – Matt LaFleur (Last Week #6)
No shocker here, but Matt LaFleur had another epic showing on Sunday, as he led his team back to victory despite a ton of adversity and a strong opponent.
3. Baltimore Ravens – John Harbaugh (Last Week #2)
Once again, Harbaugh has the Ravens in a good position for the second half of the season, but with this group, it is Super Bowl or bust at this point.
2. Detroit Lions – Dan Campbell (Last Week #3)
Dan Campbell has had this Lions team playing some of the best football in the league this year, and they secured another huge win in Week 7, knocking off the previously undefeated Vikings.
1. Kansas City Chiefs – Andy Reid (Last Week #5)
Reid’s ability to trust his defense and continue running the ball paid off, allowing Kansas City to maintain control and wear down San Francisco’s defense. No one has mid-game schemes like Andy Reid!
