NFL Head Coach is one of the most challenging jobs in pro sports, and at this point in the season it is becoming more and more clear which guys can elevate their squads and which might not be cut out for the gig.
Let’s rank all 32 NFL head coaches from worst to first!
Who are the top-ranking head coaches in the NFL after week 11?
32. Jacksonville Jaguars: Doug Pederson (Last Week #27)
Whelp, hate to say it, but there is a very good chance that this game is the nail in Pederson’s coffin down in Duvall. If not during the upcoming week, definitely in the offseason… This was ugly.
31. Chicago Bears: Matt Eberflus (Last Week #32)
Wouldn’t you know it? Another week and another game that Matt Eberflus has cost this young Bears team. Brutal showing from him again.
30. New York Jets: Jeff Ulbrich (Last Week #26)

Jeff Ulbrich’s tenure as interim NFL head coach is quickly becoming a tough sell, as they fell to 3 – 8 this week against a mediocre Colts team.
29. Dallas Cowboys: Mike McCarthy (Last Week #31)
While Mike McCarthy can chalk up some of the challenges to injuries, the fact of the matter is his tenure in Dallas has not been impressive and may be coming to an end when the offseason rolls around.
28. Tennessee Titans: Brian Callahan (Last Week #29)
Brian Callahan’s frustration is palpable and justified. Watching his team implode with penalty after penalty while dealing with controversial officiating calls is a nightmare scenario and not what you want to be known for as a rookie NFL head coach.
27. Las Vegas Raiders: Antonio Pierce (Last Week #30)
Antonio Pierce is trying to keep the team together, but the results aren’t there. His passion and fight are evident, but that will only get you so far at this level.

26. New York Giants: Brian Daboll (bye) (Last Week #28)
While Brian Daboll’s fiery demeanor on the sideline has remained constant, he’s facing what’s become another lost season. The bye week offers Daboll a chance to reset and refocus for the future.
25. Cleveland Browns: Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #22)
Stefanski’s inability to rally his team for a full 60 minutes continues to cause frustration amongst the fans, but he has been fighting an uphill battle all season with injuries.
24. Carolina Panthers: Dave Canales (bye) (Last Week #25)
Dave Canales finally has his young Panthers team winning some football games, which has to feel good for the rookie head coach in what has otherwise been a tough NFL season.
23. New England Patriots: Jerod Mayo (Last Week #23)
While it isn’t translating to consistent winning yet, Jerod Mayo is starting to build some momentum and culture in New England around his young quarterback.
22. Atlanta Falcons: Raheem Morris (Last Week #15)
While injuries played a role, Raheem Morris must figure out how to keep his team competitive, especially with a critical stretch of games looming. This was not a good showing from Atlanta.
21. Miami Dolphins: Mike McDaniel (Last Week #24)
Mike McDaniel deserves credit for recalibrating his team after an uneven stretch. His play-calling kept the Raiders on their heels, and his team’s execution in the red zone and on third down was near-flawless.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Todd Bowles (bye) (Last Week #20)
While the defense remains his calling card, his conservative tendencies have drawn criticism. Bowles has kept the team competitive, but his inability to make in-game adjustments has cost the Bucs in close matchups.
19. Seattle Seahawks: Mike Macdonald (Last Week #21)
First-year head coach Mike Macdonald earned the biggest win of his young NFL career with this gutsy performance.
18. Cincinnati Bengals: Zac Taylor (Last Week #13)
Zac Taylor’s team showed heart, but another close loss raises questions about his ability to get them to perform the necessary degree of consistency.
17. Indianapolis Colts: Shane Steichen (Last Week #19)
Shane Steichen’s decision to reinstate Richardson as the starter proved brilliant. His faith in the young quarterback paid off, and his play-calling during the final drive was a master class.
16. Washington Commanders: Dan Quinn (Last Week #10)
Dan Quinn’s aggressive play-calling will always have its highs and lows. And in this case, going for it on fourth down backfired in a big way and set the momentum of the game against his young Commanders.
15. New Orleans Saints: Darren Rizzi (Last Week #17)
Interim NFL head coach Darren Rizzi has breathed new life into this team, as they throttled the Browns this week 35 – 14.
14. Houston Texans: DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #16)
DeMeco Ryans is one of the better young head coaches in the NFL today. He’s done a strong job of managing the onslaught of injuries that have plagued the Texans this year.
13. Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Sirianni (Last Week #18)
Nick Sirianni’s halftime adjustments paid dividends in what he later described as a “grimy, gritty” game. He has proven a lot of Eagles fans wrong the past few weeks.
12. San Francisco 49ers: Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #5)
Kyle Shanahan is once again facing questions about his team’s late-game execution. Blowing a fourth-quarter lead in a divisional matchup is a tough pill to swallow, especially when it’s the third time this season San Francisco has failed to close out a game against an NFC West rival.
11. Arizona Cardinals: Jonathan Gannon (bye) (Last Week #12)
The jury is still largely out on Jonathan Gannon, but he is starting to find his identity as a head coach during his second NFL season calling the shots in the desert.
10. Denver Broncos: Sean Payton (Last Week #14)
Sean Payton has this team playing inspired football, and the sweep of the NFC South is proof that he is building something in the Mile High City.
9. Baltimore Ravens: John Harbaugh (Last Week #4)
John Harbaugh faces tough questions after yet another loss to the Steelers. His team’s inability to avoid penalties was surprising for a veteran squad. He has to find a way to get this group locked in during these higher-pressured matchups.
8. Los Angeles Rams: Sean McVay (Last Week #11)
Sean McVay did well in weathering the storm early through injuries and has now engineered an impressive turnaround, guiding the Rams to four wins in their last five games.
7. Minnesota Vikings: Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #9)
Kevin O’Connell’s impact on this team is undeniable. From steadying Sam Darnold after his early turnover to orchestrating a disciplined, efficient game plan, O’Connell continues to prove he’s one of the NFL’s brightest young head coaches.
6. Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur (Last Week #7)
While no one aspect of this Packers team really stands out on its own, Matt LaFleur has proven that he can be the straw that stirs the drink for the Packers, and with that, the sum of this team is greater than its parts.
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Andy Reid (Last Week #2)
Can’t knock the guy too much, considering his team was undefeated to this point, but Andy Reid’s squad faced its toughest challenge yet and came up short.
4. Buffalo Bills: Sean McDermott (Last Week #8)
Everything Sean McDermott tried on Sunday worked, as his team was effective on fourth down and put enough pressure on the Kansas City defense to break them.
3. Los Angeles Chargers: Jim Harbaugh (Last Week #6)
Jim Harbaugh got his statement victory as the Chargers head coach. His aggressive approach paid dividends with the fourth-and-goal for a touchdown in the first half to set the tone. It is clear his team is taking on his identity.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Tomlin (Last Week #3)
While the offensive mediocrity remains a concern, Tomlin’s knack for getting his team to deliver in clutch divisional games is why the Steelers are atop the AFC North.
1. Detroit Lions: Dan Campbell (Last Week #1)
Dan Campbell has to be riding high with the way his 9 – 1 Lions are playing. He has this team playing awesome football in all facets of the game.
