As we pass the midpoint of the 2024 NFL season, the performance of head coaches comes under increased scrutiny. So much so that we have already seen a couple of guys get handed pink slips!
Whether it is game management, adaptability, or just raw performance, not all coaches are created equal—so let’s rank all 32 NFL head coaches from worst to first after Week 10.
Who are the top-ranking head coaches in the NFL after week 10?
32. Chicago Bears: Matt Eberflus (Last Week #32)
Matt Eberflus felt the heat in Soldier Field as fans chanted “Fire ‘Flus!” in the final minutes. If there was ever a time for the Bears to fire a head coach mid-season, this is it!
31. Dallas Cowboys: Mike McCarthy (Last Week #28)
Mike McCarthy’s seat is heating up, and this performance did nothing to quiet the chatter. Granted, he had his work cut out for him with Dak out, but still, not an impressive showing.
30. Las Vegas Raiders (bye): Antonio Pierce (Last Week #30)

Antonio Pierce stepped in with passion and energy, but it’s clear that moving from the interim gig to full-time hasn’t been a smooth transition.
29. Tennessee Titans: Brian Callahan (Last Week #27)
Brian Callahan was visibly frustrated with the overturned fumble call before halftime, which is fair, but things really haven’t gone well for him in his first year as a head coach.
28. New York Giants: Brian Daboll (Last Week #25)
Tough Sunday for Brian Daboll, who got outdueled by Dave Canales and the Panthers in Germany.
27. Jacksonville Jaguars: Doug Pederson (Last Week #24)
Doug Pederson’s frustration is evident, as the Jaguars have now dropped to 2-8. The team’s offensive woes have compounded, and the chopping block may be in his near future.

26. New York Jets: Jeff Ulbrich (Last Week #22)
Robert Saleh has to be smiling somewhere, watching the Jets season deteriorate further under the reign of Jeff Ulbrich.
25. Carolina Panthers: Dave Canales (Last Week #29)
Dave Canales is starting to see some of his vision come to life. Winning back-to-back games may not sound like much, but for this team, it’s a major confidence boost.
24. Miami Dolphins: Mike McDaniel (Last Week #23)
Since he got to Miami, Mike McDaniel’s made it clear that he’s not afraid to take risks, and the Dolphins seem to rally around his bold style. The only problem is his complex system is not well-suited for a backup quarterback, and it would be good to see him learn to better adjust going forward.
23. New England Patriots: Jerod Mayo (Last Week #26)
Jerod Mayo is starting to get this team motivated and going in the right direction as they knocked off the Bears on their home field.
22. Cleveland Browns (bye): Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #21)
Kevin Stefanski has to be a happy camper now that he has a new quarterback at his disposal. It will be interesting to see if they can get some momentum going now.
21. Seattle Seahawks (bye): Mike Macdonald (Last Week #19)
Mike Macdonald has done a nice job in his first year with Seattle. He’s pulled this team together, blending veterans and young players into a unit that’s playing with confidence and purpose.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Todd Bowles (Last Week #18)
With a team in the middle of a losing streak, Bowles needs to refocus his squad to avoid those costly mistakes that turned a potential win into yet another tough loss.
19. Indianapolis Colts: Shane Steichen (Last Week #16)
Shane Steichen is dealing with a challenging situation, balancing injuries and a strange quarterback situation, but overall, he has done a nice job with this squad so far.
18. Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Sirianni (Last Week #20)
After weeks of animosity between coach Nick Sirianni and the Philly fans, it seems like they are starting to mend fences as he keeps putting wins on the board for this NFL squad.
17. New Orleans Saints: Darren Rizzi (Not Ranked)
“What an unbelievable week,” said Rizzi, a 54-year-old long-time special teams coach who was given his first head coaching opportunity on Monday following the firing of Dennis Allen. What a week, indeed! Rizzi did the unthinkable and got the Saints back in the win column.
16. Houston Texans: DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #13)
DeMeco Ryans had the Texans ready to play, and they looked poised for a victory. However, the team faltered down the stretch, unable to capitalize on Detroit’s mistakes as the Lions eked out a big win.
15. Atlanta Falcons: Raheem Morris (Last Week #12)
Frustrating afternoon for Coach Morris, who had to be expecting a W against a reeling Saints team. His squad fought hard, but poor execution ultimately did them in when it mattered most.
14. Denver Broncos: Sean Payton (Last Week #14)
Sean Payton had his team prepared, and it showed. His game plan was effective, but the inability to close out the game left him understandably frustrated.
13. Cincinnati Bengals: Zac Taylor (Last Week #15)
Zac Taylor made the bold call to go for two points and the win at the end. While it didn’t work out, he’s shown he’s willing to play aggressive, high-stakes football, which you have to give him credit for.
12. Arizona Cardinals: Jonathan Gannon (Last Week #17)
Jonathan Gannon had his squad locked in and ready to execute against a Jets team that played like their season was on the line. He’s starting to really find something out in the desert.
11. Los Angeles Rams: Sean McVay (Last Week #11)
Sean McVay’s offense still has some fire to it, relying on creativity and pace. While it’s clear this isn’t quite the electric unit of years past, they have enough talent to make a run at the playoffs.
10. Washington Commanders: Dan Quinn (Last Week #3)
Head coach Dan Quinn has undeniably brought a new energy to this NFL team, transforming them into an NFC contender almost overnight and creating a great environment for his rookie quarterback to thrive.
9. Minnesota Vikings: Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #6)
Kevin O’Connell managed to win, but he knows there’s plenty to clean up. The Vikings controlled every facet of the game, yet mistakes in the red zone and turnovers nearly undid them.
8. Buffalo Bills: Sean McDermott (Last Week #10)
Credit to Sean McDermott for building a program that is capable of winning even on its lesser days.
7. Green Bay Packers (bye): Matt LaFleur (Last Week #7)
Matt LaFleur has maintained a steady hand, guiding the Packers to a 6-3 record, but he’ll have to further elevate himself and the team if he wants to catch the Lions in the NFC North.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: Jim Harbaugh (Last Week #8)
Jim Harbaugh’s game plan was spot-on, emphasizing efficiency and adaptability. His approach has the Chargers at their best start since 2018, and his players are responding to his leadership.
5. San Francisco 49ers: Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #5)
Kyle Shanahan’s squad pulled out a close one, but he likely felt this game could have been put away earlier. Still, a win is a win, and Shanahan’s leadership got the team refocused through the tense finish.
4. Baltimore Ravens: John Harbaugh (Last Week #4)
John Harbaugh has seen a lot in his time, but managing this kind of comeback is a testament to his ability to keep his team cool.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Tomlin (Last Week #9)
Mike Tomlin’s impact is unmistakable. Every time this team faces adversity, he’s there, steadying the ship and guiding his players to stay focused, which is exactly why they perform so well in close games and why he’s been such a fixture in Pittsburgh.
2. Kansas City Chiefs: Andy Reid (Last Week #2)
Andy Reid’s decision-making was as sharp as ever, particularly his gutsy call to go for it on fourth down in the red zone, which led to a Mahomes-to-Kelce touchdown. The beloved NFL coach’s ability to read the moment and stay one step ahead remains a key part of Kansas City’s success.
1. Detroit Lions: Dan Campbell (Last Week #1)
Dan Campbell’s leadership was on full display. In a game that could have easily gone off the rails, Campbell’s calm approach helped Goff and the Lions regroup as they stole a win on Sunday night.
