Now that the dust has settled from the end of the regular season, let’s take a gander around the NFL and power rank every team’s head coach.
32. Carolina Panthers Chris Tabor (Last Week #28)
Whelp, yet another tough week for Panthers interim head coach, Chris Tabor. His Panthers were shut out at home to end a relentlessly terrible season for Carolina.
31. Washington Commanders Ron Rivera (Last Week #31)
Ron Rivera has truly had an embarrassing last year as the Commanders head coach. This team completely quit on him and we saw the young stars on the team regress under his leadership. No surprise here that Rivera finally delivered a pink slip on Monday.
30. Atlanta Falcons Arthur Smith (Last Week #28)
Arthur Smith looks like a coach who knows his time cashing a paycheck may be coming to an end. The Falcons head coach laid another egg this week then through a temper tantrum when the game finished because New Orleans continued to pour it on. Yikes.

29. New England Patriots Bill Belichick (Last Week #26)
If this is truly Bill Belichick’s last game as a New England Patriot, it will go down as a crushing disappointment, as the team lost its 15-game winning streak against the Jets and lost in embarrassing fashion, 17 – 3.
28. Los Angeles Chargers Giff Smith (Last Week #27)
Giff Smith has done a nice job with this defense over the past couple of weeks. Perhaps, even if he doesn’t retain the head coaching job next year, there could be an opportunity for Smith to lead the defense.
27. Denver Broncos Sean Payton (Last Week #17)
It remains to be seen if the Sean Payton experience in Denver is a success or not, as we can’t judge the coach on this one year alone, but it has certainly been a tumultuous first season for the former Super Bowl-winning coach.
26. New York Jets Robert Saleh (Last Week #29)
Robert Saleh coached up New York to a nice bounce-back performance this week. The Jets head coach led the team to a 17 to three win to close out an otherwise disappointing season.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson (Last Week #21)
Doug Pederson is going to have some serious questions to answer this offseason with the way that this season ended. His Jaguars absolutely collapsed and blew a promising start to the 2023 year and now officially missed the postseason.
24. Tennessee Titans Mike Vrabel (Last Week #30)
Games like this one against the Jaguars is why you never want to bet against Mike Vrabel—and why he is a great head coach. Even with his season in the gutter, he was able to get his men rallied to play spoiler and they did a masterful job of doing just that against Jacksonville this week.
23. Philadelphia Eagles Nick Sirianni (Last Week #9)
Things have gone from bad to worse—fast for Nick Sirianni. After blowing a big lead against the Cardinals in Week 17, they’ve now fallen to the Giants and squandered a division title and subsequently home-field advantage in the playoffs.
22. Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Gannon (Last Week #23)
We will have to see them do it with a little bit more consistency next year, but it looks like Jonathan Gannon might be building something out in the desert. Arizona has been playing really sound ball over the last couple weeks and it seems he and Kyler Murray are really starting to get on the same page.
21. New Orleans Saints Dennis Allen (Last Week #25)
Dennis Allen has against all odds started to find some sort of rhythm with this team. The Saints rallied nicely down the stretch of this season to put themselves in a position to try and sneak into the postseason, something that seemed unobtainable for a good chunk of the regular season.
20. New York Giants Brian Daboll (Last Week #24)
Credit to Brian Daboll for doing a great job of salvaging these last few weeks of what’s been an otherwise disappointing season for his Giants. He kept New York playing hard through a myriad of injuries and there is reason to be optimistic about this bunch heading into next year.
19. Minnesota Vikings Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #20)
Kevin O’Connell did well to course-correct this week and get Nick Mullens back under center. Overall, the Vikings head coach has done a great job keeping this team competitive all year despite critical injuries to the likes of Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson.
18. Dallas Cowboys Mike McCarthy (Last Week #19)
Mike McCarthy had another quality year ahead of the Cowboys organization. The team finished 12 and five, but the real test will come in the postseason where Dallas—and its head coach will have to prove its legitimacy in high-level competition.
17. Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll (Last Week #18)
The Seahawks have been among the best-coached teams during the Pete Caroll era, but they came up just short of the playoffs this year. All things considered, Carroll has done a good job with this team, particularly in the chaos of the post-Russell Wilson era.
16. Chicago Bears Matt Eberflus (Last Week #15)
The Bears defense has continued to excel under Eberflus’s leadership. It would, however, be nice to see him find a way to get the Bears offense playing at a higher level more consistently.
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Todd Bowles (Last Week #22)
Well, hard to believe it, but after a tough start to the season, Todd Bowles has turned it around in Tampa Bay. The defensive-minded head coach finished the year on a high note, leading the team to a shutout win in Week 18 to clinch a playoff berth.
14. Buffalo Bills Sean McDermott (Last Week #11)
Sean McDermott has done a great job of getting his team to rally in the second half of the season here, but it would be nice to see them find a way to cut back on all of the boneheaded mistakes that they continue to make.
13. Cincinnati Bengals Zac Taylor (Last Week #10)
The Bengals may not have been able to sneak into the playoffs this year without Joe Burrow, but that doesn’t take anything away from the job that Zac Taylor did with this team. Cincinnati continued to fight all season long and has played impressive football.
12. Miami Dolphins Mike McDaniel (Last Week #8)
Mike McDaniel does tend to get a little cute for our liking during these big games, but there is no denying that he was among the top NFL coaches this season.
11. Indianapolis Colts Shane Steichen (Last Week #12)
Shane Steichen was indisputably one of the best coaches in the league this year. He squeezed water out of a stone with a young Colts team that had a myriad of injuries. Unfortunately, the Colts did come up short Week 18 with the playoffs on the line.
10. Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur (Last Week #13)
Matt LaFleur did an extremely impressive job this season with a young Packers team—and now, he’s done the unthinkable and secured a Wild Card spot when no one thought it was possible.
9. Las Vegas Raiders Antonio Pierce (Last Week #14)
Antonio Pierce has the Raiders balling out in the second half of the season. He has done everything in his power to prove that he should be the head coach of the organization going forward.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Tomlin (Last Week #16)
Leave it to Mike Tomlin to pull off a miracle last-season run to salvage another double-digit win season. He has done a great job tee-ing up Mason Rudolph for success and leaning on the run game and the defense.
7. Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid (Last Week #5)
Leave it to Andy Reid to scheme up an offense that can get Blaine Gabbert a win in the NFL. Granted, Gabbert- Hardman Jr connection. And, really, the rest of the offense didn’t exactly resemble the Mahomes-Kelce operations, but Reid got the W.
6. Cleveland Browns Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #4)
Obviously, this week wasn’t Stefanski and co. putting their best foot forward, as they’d already locked up a playoff berth. Stefanski deserves a ton of credit for the job he did this year navigating a slew of key injuries and getting this team to the postseason.
5. San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #3)
Kyle Shanahan made the wise decision to rest his weary starters this week with their postseason fate already sealed. The offensive guru did an impressive job in Week 18 of scrapping together spare parts to create a cohesive offensive performance.
4. Houston Texans DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #7)
With that win on Saturday night, DeMeco Ryans may have locked up NFL Coach of the Year honors. He did a fantastic job with his young Texans team—and the playoff berth is the icing on the cake!
3. Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay (Last Week #2)
Sean McVay continues to remind everyone why he is among the top coaches in the NFL. Even with Carson Wentz under center, the Rams offense played well enough to secure its 10th win of the season and can now squarely place its focus on a postseason run.
2. Detroit Lions Dan Campbell (Last Week #6)
Dan Campbell is a coach with an identity, plain and simple. He came into this one wanting to set a tone for the postseason rather than resting his starters and Detroit did just that by knocking off Minnesota in Week 18.
1. Baltimore Ravens John Harbaugh (Last Week #1)
The Ravens fought hard for Coach Harbaugh this week, but they were undermanned with a number of starters resting. Regardless of the meaningless Week 18 loss, Harbaugh absolutely delivered in 2023 and was one of the top coaches in the league.
