What a week for the NFL’s shot callers! Now that the dust has settled from an exciting Week 17, let’s take a look around the NFL and power rank every team’s head coach.
32. Carolina Panthers Chris Tabor (Last Week #28)
It looks like the job that Tabor did in Week 16 was more of a last gasp than anything else. His Panthers may as well have not showed up this week against the Jaguars.
31. Washington Commanders Ron Rivera (Last Week #32)
Another week, another pitiful showing from Ron Rivera on the Washington sideline. The Commanders showed very little life this week against an admittedly overpowering 49ers side.
30. Tennessee Titans Mike Vrabel (Last Week #29)
Tough showing for Mike Vrabel this week, as his Titans completely rolled over for the rival Texans. They managed a measly three points and showed very little fight all game.

29. New York Jets Robert Saleh (Last Week #27)
Despite getting a recent vote of confidence from ownership things have continued to spiral for Robert Saleh, as the Jets allowed an insane 34 points in the first half against Cleveland on Thursday Night Football.
28. Atlanta Falcons Arthur Smith (Last Week #26)
Arthur Smith may very well be out at the end of the season. The Falcons have been way too inconsistent for ownership to feel good about bringing the coach back for another try in 2024.
27. Los Angeles Chargers Giff Smith (Last Week #23)
The Giff Smith magic seemed to have run out quickly this week, as the Chargers managed just nine points against a mediocre Broncos team.
26. New England Patriots Bill Belichick (Last Week #25)
Bill Belichick had the Patriots playing sound football for most of the game—and had the team in a position to win, but unfortunately they came up short marking their 12th loss of an incredibly disappointing year.
25. New Orleans Saints Dennis Allen (Last Week #30)
Dennis Allen and the Saints may have gotten the win this week, but the head coach was still painfully conservative and made more than a couple of questionable calls on the afternoon.
24. New York Giants Brian Daboll (Last Week #24)
2023 looked like a lost season for the Giants after the injury to Daniel Jones—and in many ways it still was, but Daboll has done a good job of keeping this team competitive down the stretch—even with nothing to play for.
23. Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Gannon (Last Week #31)
Not sure what happened to the whole tanking initiative, but Jonathan Gannon pulled off a stunning win this week against the Eagles. Who would’ve thought!
22. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Todd Bowles (Last Week #10)
This is what we get for trying to give Todd Bowles credit, the underwhelming head coach lays a massive egg in one of the most important games of the season. His Buccaneers looked completely unprepared for this showdown with New Orleans.
21. Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson (Last Week #22)
After a tough few weeks, Doug Pederson got his team moving in the right direction against the admittedly lowly Panthers. That said, Pederson did a great job of scheming the offense around Beathard’s limitations and putting the team in a position to win this one.
20. Minnesota Vikings Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #16)
Well, it is official—the onslaught of injuries and subsequent QB carousel has officially gotten the best of Kevin O’Connell and the Minnesota Vikings. Even so, it was an impressive showing from the young coach this year, as the Vikings fought hard all season and nearly snuck into a playoff spot.
That said, the decision to roll with Jaren Hall this week was questionable at best and definitely bit the team on the backside.
19. Dallas Cowboys Mike McCarthy (Last Week #17)
Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys got in the win column this week against a good Lions team, but to be honest, Dallas’s head coach did not impress but was more so the beneficiary of over-aggressive play calling from Detroit.
18. Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll (Last Week #14)
The Seahawks are undeniably a well-coached team under Pete Caroll, unfortunately, it looked like the injuries got the best of them down the stretch of the season.
17. Denver Broncos Sean Payton (Last Week #12)
Sean Payton got his wish, as he was finally able to get Russell Wilson out of the lineup this week and his team rewarded the decision by getting a W against the Chargers. Unfortunately, they were also eliminated from the playoffs this week with the Chiefs winning.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Tomlin (Last Week #21)
No shocker here, but never count a Mike Tomlin team out. This team looked dead and buried a couple of weeks ago, but they have since come alive—and have an outside chance at stealing on the final playoff spots in the AFC with a win next week.
15. Chicago Bears Matt Eberflus (Last Week #20)
Matt Eberflus has completely changed the narrative around this team in the last few weeks. The Bears head coach has the defense playing great and the offense is starting to put up points consistently.
14. Las Vegas Raiders Antonio Pierce (Last Week #13)
all the credit in the world for the job he did reviving this team’s season—and seemingly their interest in football.
Las Vegas looked completely checked out at the end of the McDaniels era and they’ve been super competitive since.
13. Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur (Last Week #19)
After a tumultuous few weeks, Matt LaFleur has gotten his team back on track and with an outside-looking-in chance at a playoff berth. That said, this team has still outperformed expectations this year and Packers fans should be excited with what they’ve seen LaFleur get out of his young quarterback, Jordan Love.
12. Indianapolis Colts Shane Steichen (Last Week #18)
Shane Steichen did a masterful job getting his team back on track after a blunder-plagued Week 16 loss that put their playoff bid in jeopardy. The Colts were crisp and executed extremely well to secure the win against the Raiders this week.
11. Buffalo Bills Sean McDermott (Last Week #15)
While you would like to see the Bills playing slightly more crisp football at this time of the year, it is hard to knock McDermott. His team continues to find ways to win these must-win games, albeit against mediocre competition.
10. Cincinnati Bengals Zac Taylor (Last Week #9)
Zac Taylor had the Bengals up and ready for this Week 17 showdown with their vaunted rival, Kansas City. Unfortunately for the Bengals, they were overmatched and KC took over in the second half after a close start.
9. Philadelphia Eagles Nick Sirianni (Last Week #5)
Wow. Tough week for Nick Sirianni as his team blew a huge halftime lead that has put their lead in the NFC East at risk. Obviously, Sirianni is a solid coach all things considered, but he needs to pick it up and stat—otherwise this team is in trouble.
8. Miami Dolphins Mike McDaniel (Last Week #3)
Tough showing from Mike McDaniel this week, as his Dolphins had no answer for the Ravens—on either side of the ball.
7. Houston Texans DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #11)
DeMeco Ryans had his group ready to roll this week against a reeling Titans team. The Texans showed no mercy and rolled through the lesser competition to keep their playoff bid alive.
6. Detroit Lions Dan Campbell (Last Week #4)
On some level, you have to take the good with the bad when it comes to Dan Campbell, because his aggressive coaching style is a big part of what’s turned around the Lions the last two years, but there are certainly moments that it would do Campbell and his team well to be slightly more conservative.
5. Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid (Last Week #8)
The Chiefs head coach did well to get his team back under control after a tumultuous start to their Week 17 matchup with the Bengals—and most importantly, led his team to a division-clinching win.
4. Cleveland Browns Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #7)
Another week has come and gone and Kevin Stefanski continues to impress with how he’s managed this Browns season. The team has battled through so many injuries, but continued to fight and now—they have clinched a playoff spot.
3. San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #6)
Credit to Kyle Shanahan for getting his squad back in order Week 17 against the Commanders. They moved the ball no problem and the defense was flying all over the field, as they secured an early win.
2. Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay (Last Week #2)
Week 17 was a little too close for comfort, but Sean McVay found a way to get the job done against the Giants with their playoff bid still very much hanging in the balance. A loss in this spot would’ve been shocking because McVay has proven to be one of the top HCs in the league all year.
1. Baltimore Ravens John Harbaugh (Last Week #1)
Week 17 marks the second consecutive weak that John Harbaugh outcoached another top HC in the league, as he ran circles around Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins.
