We are now very much in crunch time for this NFL season and it looks like we may see more coaches on the chopping block soon. Let’s look around the league and stack rank every team’s head coach.
32. Carolina Panthers Chris Tabor (Last Week #32)
It doesn’t look like Chris Tabor is going to be the long term solution in Charlotte. The Panthers have not responded to him as the interim coach and they looked dysfunctional all afternoon on Sunday against the Saints.
31. BYE Washington Commanders Ron Rivera (Last Week #31)
Ron Rivera stayed put towards the bottom of the rankings this week with his team on the bye. His Commanders will face a tough test in Week 15 against a Rams team that is playing good football and should have a significant coaching advantage with Sean McVay calling the shots.
30. Los Angeles Chargers Brandon Staley (Last Week #28)
At this point, there is almost no doubt that Brandon Staley will be replaced as the coach of the Chargers next year. This team continues to regress and it is clear that he and Justin Herbert aren’t exactly on the same page on a week-to-week basis.

29. New Orleans Saints Dennis Allen (Last Week #25)
Somehow, someway, Dennis Allen’s Saints are still in the hunt for the postseason—largely thanks to the lowly standard of play in the NFC South this year.
That said, the head coach does little to inspire hope that his team will be able to do any real damage in the postseason should they make it.
28. New England Patriots Bill Belichick (Last Week #30)
Obviously, this Patriots season is a complete disaster, but Bill Belichick seems to be holding up his end of the bargain, particularly of late, with the way he has that defense playing.
27. Las Vegas Raiders Antonio Pierce (Last Week #20)
The Raiders have now lost three in a row and though the team is fighting hard for Antonio Pierce, there doesn’t seem to be a strong consensus that he’ll be brought back as the full-time head coach this offseason.
26. BYE Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Gannon (Last Week #22)
With Kyler Murray injured to start the year, 2023 was always going to be a challenging journey for Jonathan Gannon. His team hasn’t looked great, but with Murray back in the fold they are starting to show some promise for next season.
25. New York Jets Robert Saleh (Last Week #29)
Robert Saleh may very well have saved his job with the performance he got out of his Jets this week. New York bounced back from a slow start in the first half offensively and came alive to score 30 in the second.
It is a long shot, but the Jets season is quite dead yet.
24. Atlanta Falcons Arthur Smith (Last Week #19)
With how they played against the Jets in Week 13—and now losing to the Buccaneers at home, the seat very well may be heating up for Arthur Smith. The Falcons have been wildly inconsistent all season and Smith deserves his fair share of the blame.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Todd Bowles (Last Week #23)
This Buccaneers team is in the mix for the NFC South crown, but Todd Bowels still may end up losing his job after this year. He has zero presence on the sideline and Tampa Bay has been inconsistent all season.
22. Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll (Last Week #21)
After a promising start to the season, Pete Carroll has now lost four consecutive games for the first time in his tenure with the Seahawks. He needs to find a way to get this anemic running game going—otherwise it is going to be curtains for Seattle’s playoff hopes.
21. New York Giants Brian Daboll (Last Week #24)
The 2022 NFL Coach of the Year is all the way back! All the credit in the world to Brian Daboll for what he’s pulled off in recent weeks with Tommy DeVito under center.
20. Tennessee Titans Mike Vrabel (Last Week #26)
Well, that was a stunning win for a Titans team that has looked dead in the water of late. Never count out Mike Vrabel!
19. Chicago Bears Matt Eberflus (Last Week #27)
The Bears may be playing football, but there is a growing consensus that this is going to be Matt Eberflus’s last season in Chicago.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Tomlin (Last Week #13)
Mike Tomlin needs to get things straightened out in the Steel City and fast. His team is crumbling right before our eyes with back-to-back losses to the lowly Cardinals and Patriots that are going to jeopardize their playoff spot.
17. Minnesota Vikings Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #16)
Although the Vikings won Sunday—it wasn’t pretty. And losing Justin Jefferson again to injury had to have been extremely deflating for the team.
Credit to Kevin O’Connell though for finding a way to win ugly—even if it took shuffling the quarterback deck late in this one.
16. Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur (Last Week #11)
Perhaps we spoke to soon! Matt LaFleur’s Packers took a big step back this week with their stunning loss to the Giants on Monday Night Football.
15. Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson (Last Week #12)
Doug Pederson and the Jaguars are reeling a bit of late. The veteran head coach is a master of the locker room and keeping morale high and he’ll need to channel those skills down the stretch of the season if he doesn’t want his young, talented team to get boxed out of a competitive AFC playoff picture.
14. Buffalo Bills Sean McDermott (Last Week #17)
So… Yeah. Tough week for Sean McDermott leading up to the biggest game of his season against the Chiefs, but his Bills managed to pull it out for him. Buffalo stole one in Arrowhead getting back above .500 to keep their playoff hopes alive.
13. Cleveland Browns Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #18)
Credit to Kevin Stefanski for keeping this Browns team afloat despite all of the crazy injuries the team has battled this year. He seems to have found something of late with Joe Flacco under center.
12. Indianapolis Colts Shane Steichen (Last Week #10)
Shane Steichen seemed to run out of tricks this week against the Bengals. His Colts, who have overachieved all year long, looked out of sorts and struggled to get any sort of consistency going.
11. Detroit Lions Dan Campbell (Last Week #6)
Dan Campbell is starting to get a little carried away with these aggressive calls on 4th down, especially considering his team converted just one of five tries. He needs to get the Lions refocused as soon as possible, if they are going to be firing on all cylinders when the playoffs roll around.
10. Houston Texans DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #8)
It was a tough week for DeMeco Ryans and the Texans, who lost a critical game against the Jets that would’ve been huge for them with Jacksonville losing elsewhere.
9. Denver Broncos Sean Payton (Last Week #14)
The Denver Broncos have had quite a turnaround under Sean Payton recently. The Super Bowl-winning coach led them to yet another win, this time, on the road against the L.A. Chargers.
It looks like Payton has found some magic left in old Russell Wilson as the former Pro Bowler is playing inspired and shockingly competent football in recent weeks.
8. Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid (Last Week #7)
Once again, Andy Reid’s Chiefs had a performance that was marred boneheaded errors. It wasn’t just Kadarious Toney’s shocking inability to line up onsides, K.C. also had a few critical penalties and looked out of sync to the standards of an Andy Reid-coached team.
7. Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay (Last Week #9)
Sean McVay’s offense was on fire again this week. Unfortunately, his game management left a little to be desired down the stretch as poor clock management and special teams play ultimately cost his team the game.
6. Cincinnati Bengals Zac Taylor (Last Week #15)
Zac Taylor has done a masterful job keeping his Bengals focused and in the playoff hunt after a tough start to the season and losing Joe Burrow for the year. Cinci balled out this week at home, dispatching the Colts 34 to 14.
5. Philadelphia Eagles Nick Sirianni (Last Week #5)
The Eagles are starting to look mighty tired, as their grueling schedule wears on. Fortunately for Nick Sirianni, the Birds do have a lighter load in the coming weeks, which should give him a chance to get his team back on track to try and make another run at the Super Bowl.
4. Miami Dolphins Mike McDaniel (Last Week #3)
It was a tough showing for Mike McDaniel’s Dolphins this week, as his team choked away what should’ve been an easy win against the Titans.
3. Baltimore Ravens John Harbaugh (Last Week #4)
Week 14 was big for John Harbaugh and the Ravens. He kept his team balanced throughout the game and did well to weather the Rams storm in route to their 10th victory of the year, which should put them in a good position to secure a home playoff game.
2. Dallas Cowboys Mike McCarthy (Last Week #2)
Mike McCarthy really has this Cowboys team playing unbelievable football. They moved the ball effortlessly against Philly this week and look like a serious Super Bowl contender.
1. San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #1)
Kyle Shanahan has his Niners playing unbelievable football lately. The offense is truly firing on all cylinders and the defense is zipping around the field making plays all over the place.
With this latest win, the team moves to 10 and three, and they look like the favorite to come out of the NFC this year.
