We are approximately halfway through the season and the seat is starting to heat up for some of the NFL’s head coaches. Let’s take a look around the league and power rank every team’s shotcaller.
32. Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur (Last Week #28)
Things have gone from bad to worse for Packers head coach, Matt LeFleur, as his team continues to flounder about. To make matters worse, his first-year quarterback, Jordan Love, seems to be regressing under his watch.
31. Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Gannon (Last Week #26)
The Cards were a nice story to start the season, but Jonathan Gannon’s group is really starting to bottom out. Granted, he is fighting an uphill battle without Kyler Murray, but 1-7 is 1-7.
30. Washington Commanders Ron Rivera (Last Week #31)
Ron Rivera had another tough showing this week, as the veteran head coach borderline appears asleep at the wheel. If the coaching weren’t bad enough to begin with, Rivera surely didn’t do himself any favors with his explanation for the missed challenge opportunity.

29. Los Angeles Chargers Brandon Staley (Last Week #32)
Staley’s gang played well on Sunday Night Football, but it came against the lowly Chicago Bears. Before we start moving the Chargers controversial head coach up in the rankings, we are going to have to see him exhibit this level of competence more consistently and against better teams.
28. Las Vegas Raiders Josh McDaniels (Last Week #29) – FIRED!
FIRED! Josh McDaniels is simply not a good head coach. Every week he seems to find new and creative ways to lose games and his team looks utterly uninspired playing for him.
27. Carolina Panthers Frank Reich (Last Week #30)
Alright! Frank Reich gets the Panthers in the win column for the first time this year. Carolina’s coach will need to a little bit more than that though if he wants to really climb in the rankings.
26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Todd Bowles (Last Week #25)
Todd Bowles is quiet on the sideline and apparently ineffective. Tampa Bay has really sputtered over the last few games and at this point, the majority of the blame has to be put on its head coach.
25. New York Giants Brian Daboll (Last Week #23)
Brian Daboll’s defense is starting to play great football, but the offense still clearly needs some work. Granted, he was up against it this week with Tyrod Taylor going out with an injury.
That said, Daboll should’ve at least tried to get something going through the air with Tommy Devito… And it is hard to argue that after an afternoon with extremely conservative play calling, the late-game field goal attempt wasn’t a huge mistake.
24. Chicago Bears Matt Eberflus (Last Week #24)
Matt Eberflus is back on his worst behavior, as his Bears put up an absolute stinker on Sunday Night Football. It seems that the magic he’d captured with Tyson Bagent the week prior was nothing but an illusion.
23. New England Patriots Bill Belichick (Last Week #22)
Whelp, the celebration from the 300th win is over and it is back into the loser’s circle for Bill Belichick and this terrible version of the New England Patriots.
22. Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay (Last Week #18)
This was not the week for Sean McVay and the Rams, as they got completely ran off the field by the Cowboys in humiliating fashion. The offensive wizard couldn’t get anything going against the Dallas D.
21. Houston Texans DeMeco Ryans (Last Week #10)
Week 8 was a surprisingly tough showing from DeMeco Ryans and the Texans. His solid, young Houston side struggled with the lowly Panthers, ultimately ceding their first win.
20. Indianapolis Colts Shane Steichen (Last Week #16)
The Colts have been grinding all season long and Shane Steichen deserves credit, but he also needs to get this defense playing at a higher level. Indy has been getting torched the last few weeks.
19. Denver Broncos Sean Payton (Last Week #27)
Sean Payton had the Broncos humming this week as they pulled off a shocking upset of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Don’t look now, but Denver might very well be putting together a late season push for one of the AFC Wild Card spots.
18. Tennessee Titans Mike Vrabel (Last Week #21)
This was a big week for Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans. He did a great job getting Will Levis prepared for his first pro start—and they are right back in the mix in the AFC South now that they might have their quarterback situation straightened out.
17. Buffalo Bills Sean McDermott (Last Week #20)
Well… Buffalo won, but it wasn’t particularly pretty. Sean McDermott has some serious issues on the defensive side of the ball that he’s going to need to mend if the Bills want to be legit contenders this year.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Tomlin (Last Week #7)
Tomlin’s Steelers laid an egg this week against the Jaguars at home. And considering they managed just three first-half points, it is tough to blame this one squarely on the injury to Kenny Pickett.
15. Atlanta Falcons Arthur Smith (Last Week #11)
Credit to Arthur Smith for finally wising up enough to pull the plug on Desmond Ridder. Taylor Heinicke played great in the second half, unfortunately, it was too little too late as Atlanta had too much ground to make up to secure the victory.
14. New Orleans Saints Dennis Allen (Last Week #19)
It seemed like it would never come, but Dennis Allen actually had the Saints playing exciting football in Week 8. If he can keep getting Rashid Shaheed in the mix, New Orleans might be able to salvage its season and make a push in the weak NFC South.
13. Cowboys Mike McCarthy (Last Week #17)
After a nice relaxing bye week, Mike McCarthy had the Cowboys firing on all cylinders this week. The offense is starting to take form, particularly the connection between Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
12. Minnesota Vikings Kevin O'Connell (Last Week #13)
Kevin O’Connell did a great job to revive the Vikings season after the injury to Justin Jefferson, but now that Kirk Cousins is expected to miss the rest of the season, it may be back to square one for Minnesota unless they can pull of a miracle at the trade deadline.
11. San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan (Last Week #8)
San Francisco has now lost three games in a row and it is going to be up to Kyle Shanahan to stop the bleeding. He needs to find a way to get his young quarterback back on track—sooner rather than later.
10. Detroit Lions Dan Campbell (Last Week #14)
After an embarrassing showing in Week 7, Dan Campbell got his boys back on track this week, taking care of business against a weak Raiders team on Monday Night Football.
9. Cleveland Browns Kevin Stefanski (Last Week #)
Kevin Stefanski has done a nice job with the Browns this year considering their brutal quarterbacking situation. That defense is as tough as they come around the league and Cleveland has been very creative and effective with how it has deployed Myles Garrett.
8. Miami Dolphins Mike McDaniel (Last Week #12)
Mike McDaniel had Dolphins back to their high-flying offensive ways against the lowly Patriots in Week 8, but we still would like to see Miami prove it against a better opponent.
7. Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll (Last Week #15)
Pete Carroll has Seattle playing some great football of late. The Seahawks are extremely well-rounded and play complementary football. The veteran head coach deserves a ton of credit for the way the team is playing.
6. Cincinnati Bengals Zac Taylor (Last Week #9)
The Cincinnati Bengals looked all the way back this week with the way that they played against the 49ers on the road. Zac Taylor deserves all the credit in the world for weathering the storm of the Joe Burrow injury and getting this team back in position to contend.
5. Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid (Last Week #1)
The Chiefs didn’t look like themselves this week with the way that they played against Denver. Mahomes was battling an illness, but still, the performance was uncharacteristic of an Andy Reid-coached team.
4. New York Jets Robert Saleh (Last Week #6)
While the offensive playing calling still has room for improvement, Robert Saleh has done an unbelievable job with this Jets team in the wake of the Aaron Rodgers injury. This week was particularly challenging with all of the in-game injuries on the offensive line.
3. Baltimore Ravens John Harbaugh (Last Week #5)
Once again, John Harbaugh has found a way to really maximize the talent on his Ravens roster. The offense is starting to look like a well-oiled machine and the defense is starting to take on that ferocious attitude we’ve come to expect from Baltimore over the years.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson (Last Week #3)
Jacksonville has now won five straight games and moved to six and two. Doug Pederson has Travis Etienne playing the best football of his career and this Jaguars team looks for real.
1. Philadelphia Eagles Nick Sirianni (Last Week #2)
Sirianni’s group got off to a tough start this week, but he deserves credit for the way the Eagles rallied in the second half to knock off the Commanders.
Every week this team has a target on their back and they’ve managed to play through some injuries and keep on winning.
