The San Francisco 49ers pulled off a blockbuster trade to acquire Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a bevy of draft picks.
On Sunday morning, ESPN’s Peter Schrager revealed that the Rams were among the teams trying to obtain Mccaffrey and quite the trade to send them, but it was turned down.
Schrager revealed that Los Angeles had offered the Panthers a package of draft capital, but it wasn’t better than what the 49ers gave them.
The Rams offered the Panthers a package consisting of a second-round pick, a third-round pick, and a fifth-round pick.
The 49ers won by tossing in an additional fourth-rounder to get the deal done. The 49ers traded 2023 second, third, and fourth-round draft picks, as well as a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Panthers in exchange for McCaffrey.
The Rams are averaging the second-fewest rushing yards per game and now they have to sit with regret on not unloading the rest of the little draft capital they have left to have acquired McCaffrey.

The Rams will instead have to watch as their NFC West rival adds one of the best dual-threat running backs in league history.
