A few days ago, Colin Cowherd discussed Todd Gurley’s release from the Los Angeles Rams after he was once considered one of the best running backs in the league at one point.
In 2018, the 25-year-old signed a 4-year, $57.5 million deal with $45 million of that guaranteed, but he would regress significantly in 2019 and questions started to come up about his knee issues.
Cowherd went on to state that the breakup of the Rams and Gurley was a lot more than just his knee and the money they gave him.
“Last year Sean McVay would say ‘The reason we’re not using Todd Gurley is because I’m an idiot! Haha! This is all on me!’ – that was the ‘story’ the Rams were projecting. But I live in Los Angeles and know players and people on the staff. That wasn’t the REAL story. The story is that Todd Gurley got paid, Todd Gurley got hurt, and Todd Gurley changed. He’s not great for the locker room right now, and they wanted him out for a year and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of him. I’ve got intel on this. They don’t want him there… What was being said behind closed doors was ‘HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS CONTRACT?’”
At least Gurley took the release well as he took to Twitter and joked about getting fired on his day off.
