The Los Angeles Rams have a unique situation on the depth chart, with their QB1 and second-stringer all being alumni of the same alma mater.
Staring quarterback Matthew Stafford played for the Georgia Bulldogs for three seasons (2006 to 2008) before being drafted first overall by the Detroit Lions in 2009. His teammate, fellow QB and Georgia product Stetson Bennett, was taken in round four at No. 128 overall by the Rams in this year’s draft.
Rams’ star wide receiver Cooper Kupp couldn’t help but troll his close friend and teammate in Stafford while offering praise to Bennett.
“He’s definitely the most athletic quarterback from Georgia that we’ve got on our team,” Kupp told reporters, via NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano.
Bennett helped the Bulldogs to consecutive national championships in 2021 and 2022. He surpassed 200 yards rushing in each of those two years, even racking up 10 rushing touchdowns in the latter year.
Stafford isn’t exactly known for his rushing game, but rather his powerful arm. The 35-year-old has 1,250 career rushing yards over 14 seasons, never rushing for more than 207 (in the 2016 campaign) in a single year.

So it’s not a stretch to say that Bennett is more athletic at this phase of his career than Stafford, at least in terms of dual-threat abilities.
But obviously, that doesn’t mean anything as long as Stafford remains the QB1. Granted, he’s 35 years of age and coming off an injury-riddled season in which he was limited to nine games. If Stafford can’t stay healthy nor return to his Pro Bowl-like form, head coach Sean McVay might have no choice but to give Bennett a try.
