Rakeem Nuñez-Roches had a miserable start to his first training camp with the New York Giants.
The New York Giants defensive tackle’s first training camp as a member of the New York Giants didn’t exactly get off to the kind of start he was hoping for as he was involved in a car crash as he was leaving the team facility a week ago.
The accident occurred less than a few feet away from the Giants’ facility. Both cars were totaled in the car accident.
Police in New Jersey have declined to release a police report from the incident, according to the New York Post, but Nunez-Roches has detailed what happened through his eyes.
“I was coming through, and I saw (the other driver) approaching the stop sign, which she was supposed to stop,” Nunez-Roches recalled. “I was coming through, and I saw her approaching the stop sign, which she was supposed to stop, but as I am looking at her, I’m like, ‘She’s going way too fast–I don’t think she’s going to stop.’
“I was able to apply the brake a couple of seconds before she hit me because if I didn’t, she was going to hit me straight on. As she hit me and I spun in a circle.”

He escaped from the incident with a concussion, forcing him to miss five days of full practice before being allowed to return. It’s unknown what, if any, injuries the other driver suffered.
As for his concussion and any soreness, Nunez-Roches tried to look at things with perspective.
“I’m in a car wreck every week at practice, so it wasn’t anything different,” he said. “God blessed me to be safe–no bumps, bruises, or broken anything, so it was all good.”
The eight-year veteran joined the Giants on a three-year, $12 million deal this summer.
Nunez-Roches will line up alongside one-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Leonard Williams on the defensive line this season.
