The Raiders organization has some very heavy hearts this week.
The Raiders Family is mourning the loss of Jack Squirek, who passed away on Friday.
Squirek was 64, but no cause of death has yet been revealed.
In a post on X, the team wrote: ‘The Raiders Family is mourning the loss of Jack Squirek, who passed away on Friday. Squirek played four years for the Raiders and was a central figure in one of pro football’s all-time great plays.
The Raiders selected Squirek out of Illinois in the second round of the 1982 NFL draft. He spent four seasons with the team that was based in Los Angeles at the time.
His biggest moment came with the Raiders leading Washington near halftime of Super Bowl XVIII, Squirek intercepted a screen pass and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown to give the Silver and Black a lead in the eventual victory.

Squirek’s run to the end zone made the cover of Sports Illustrated, one of the most memorable covers in the magazine’s illustrious history.
Squirek is survived by his wife of 36 years, Penny, and has two children and two grandchildren.
