Right now, the coronavirus has put a tight hold on a lot of things around the country and that includes ongoing construction projects.
Allegiant Stadium is expected to be ready for the 2020 Raiders season, but two on-site workers have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few weeks and it might slow things down going forward. Should that happen and the stadium not be ready in time for the 2020 NFL season, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal has reported that the team have investigated potential contingency options including playing home games in Salt Lake City, Phoenix and San Diego.
Bonsignore says the Raiders explored these three cities before signing their final lease with the Oakland Coliseum last offseason. However, the report goes on to state the Raiders would only go this route in an “absolute worst-case scenario.”
Allegiant Stadium is still on track to host two preseason games and the roof is scheduled to be completed within two weeks.
It is highly plausible that the stadium could have even more time to be ready if the coronavirus starts to affect the NFL season and games get canceled as a result.
The NFL has yet to release the 2020 schedule.
The stadium, which is expected to cost $1.97 billion, has an expected completion date of July 31, with its first event is scheduled for Aug. 16.
