The Las Vegas Raiders’ latest disappointing effort in a season that’s been full of them came last night, during primetime against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Needing a win to stay in the playoff hunt, the Raiders couldn’t get the job done, giving up a last-minute touchdown to the Steelers in a 13-10 loss.
As a result, the Raiders are pretty much eliminated from the postseason. It’s not official just yet, but it could be by week’s end.
If that happens, could it be the last we see of Derek Carr in a Raiders uniform? According to reports, it very well could be, as the Raiders could decide to bench Carr for the final two games of the season, then release him after the Super Bowl without having to pay him anymore guarantees.
The key to this move, however, would be Carr’s health. That’s because the quarterback must be healthy in order for the Raiders to be able to release him after the season without taking a financial hit.
Add it all up, and these next few weeks could very well provide us with a “strong hint” as to what the Raiders plan to do with their quarterback going forward.

Carr’s had a disappointing 2022 campaign, despite the team bringing in old friend Davante Adams to try and boost the offense. Through 15 games, he has 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. During the Raiders’ must-win game against the Steelers, he managed just 174 yards and a touchdown while throwing three interceptions.
Could that brutal outing be the nail in the coffin for Carr in Sin City? We could find out as soon as next weekend.
