Rai Benjamin took home the silver medal in what many are calling one of the greatest Olympic races of all time, but judging by his reaction, you would think he completely failed to make the medal stand at all.
The American hurdler seemed devastated as he watched his family cheer him on. Benjamin finished second in the men’s 400 meter hurdle with a time of 46.17 seconds, which smashed the old world record of 46.70 seconds. Unfortunately, Norway’s Karsten Warholm was even faster as he clocked a time of 45.94 seconds.
Benjamin fought back tears and said, “Love you, Mom. I’m sorry.”
The young man has nothing to be ashamed about. He delivered a spectacular performance and brought home a silver medal.
The race for anybody who did not see it.
