Sometimes you see or hear something and can’t believe that it is real life, but sadly, it is.
Hours after the New York Giants selected rookie cornerback Corey Ballantine in the NFL Draft, the draftee was shot during an incident that ended up killing his former Washburn teammate.
Instead of showing sympathy in a situation that clearly called for it, New York radio host Mike Francesa added insult to injury by criticizing the Giants for drafting a guy who got shot hours later.
“When you finish your draft and stress how you went out of your way to take the right kind of guys, guys that you want on the team, guys that are going to be great character guys and you stress that as strongly as the Giants did, it looks pretty bad when one of them gets shot on a Saturday night,” Francesa said, according to the popular @BackAftaThis Twitter account that chronicles the hosts comments and activities. “It does not look good. It’s just more of the same for the Giants, who just can’t get out of their own way, no matter what they say. . . . It’s sad to see the Giants become a laughingstock that they have around the league.”
Not the best look for Francesa in such a weird stance to take in what seems like a guy and his friend got caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Details of the shooting are still murky, and cops have no suspects.
