Would the Indianapolis Colts be one of many teams contacting the Chicago Bears to secure that number 1 pick in the NFL Draft?
Let’s assume the Colts believe they found the future of their franchise in this draft. How do they convince the Chicago Bears to move three spots back and swap with Indy?
If so, Heavy.com is proposing a massive trade that could make that happen.
- Colts receive Bears’ No. 1 overall pick in 2023.
- Bears receive Colts’ No. 4 overall pick in 2023, a second-round pick (No. 35) in 2023, first-round pick in 2024, and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
The Chicago Bears currently own the top pick in the draft and Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is expected to be the first player selected. However, the Bears still believe in Justin Fields as the franchise QB, so they are unlikely to take another young QB.
If the quarterback-needy Colts stay at the No. 4 spot, they could land someone like Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis or Florida’s Anthony Richardson. However, if they think their guy would be taken, they may pull that trigger that gets them out of this rut that has seen them try multiple quarterbacks since the surprise retirement from Andrew Luck.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard has already said publicly he’s ready to make the necessary moves to ensure he gets his man under center.
Zak Keefer of The Athletic asked Ballard if the Colts were willing to concede “heaven and earth” to move up for a QB they want in this draft class.
“Yes, I’d do whatever it takes,” Ballard responded.
Ultimately, the Bears and the demand will create the real price. If other teams find out what Indy is offering, they will likely try and outdo them and that bodes well for Chicago.
