The Los Angeles Rams have usually fielded one of the NFL’s best passing offenses under head coach Sean McVay, but they could certainly use a star-level running back to further bolster the unit.
Los Angeles finished with the NFL’s 27th-ranked rushing offense, averaging a mere 97.7 yards per game. The franchise hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2018, when then-superstar Todd Gurley rushed for 1,251 yards in what turned out to be his last great season.
If the defending Super Bowl champions are to return to contention in 2022, McVay and GM Les Snead must upgrade the rushing game. So with that said, why not a five-time Pro Bowler who could just might hit the trade block?
At NFL Analysis Network, Kenneth Teape proposed an intriguing blockbuster trade that would see the Rams land Alvin Kamara from the New Orleans Saints:
“New Orleans is in a brutal spot cap-wise as they are projected to be more than $60 million over the salary cap. Without a long-term answer at the quarterback position, this could be a rebuilding year in the Big Easy.
Trading someone such as Kamara could help them start that journey. He was involved in trade talks ahead of the trade deadline and could be on the market again this offseason. New Orleans was reportedly seeking a first-round pick in negotiations with the Philadelphia Eagles, but that could have been motivated by the Eagles owning their selection.
Los Angeles should offer their 2023 third-round pick and a 2024 conditional second-round pick and see if the Saints bite. The second-rounder in 2024 can turn into a first if Kamara and the Rams hit certain incentives during the 2023 season.”
The Saints are coming off a disappointing 7-10 season which saw them finish one game out of first for the NFC South division crown. GM Mickey Loomis must decide if he wants to stay competitive and eye a playoff berth or simply rebuild altogether.
Trading Kamara would strongly signal the latter. And if the Rams could make the dollars work, Kamara would be a worthwhile addition to an offense that has relied too much on the Matthew Stafford-Cooper Kupp combination.

Kamara has been one of the NFL’s most dynamic do-it-all playmakers since he entered the league in 2017. A model of consistency, he has recorded over 1,000 yards of offense over each of his first six NFL seasons.
