Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is by far the most untradeable player in the NFL right now, but what would a potential trade package look like?
At Bleacher Report, Alex Kay came up with “absurd” trade packages for the NFL’s most untradeable stars. Regarding a potential haul for the two-time Super Bowl champion and 2022 league MVP, Kay outlined a package where Mahomes goes to the Houston Texans in exchange for a whopping six first-round picks (two in 2023, two in 2024, one in 2025 and one in 2026) plus a second-rounder each year from 2023 to 2026:
“If any franchise could be desperate enough to scrape together the type of assets it would take to land Mahomes, it might be the Houston Texans…
With arguably the worst roster in the league and tons of holes to fill, it would take nearly everything the Texans could conceivably muster to get Kansas City to the negotiating table to discuss a Mahomes deal…
The Texans would likely need to cough up as many future firsts as the league will allow, which includes picks through the 2026 draft this year. As it stands, that would total up the six Houston currently has—two this year, two in 2024, one in 2025 and one in 2026—but it’s hard to envision a scenario in which the Chiefs would even entertain the idea for those selections alone.”
This would be quite the league-altering trade if both teams agreed to it, but it’s not going to happen. The Chiefs have the best player on the planet and shouldn’t be keen on trading him whatsoever, plus the Texans are in position to get a new franchise QB in Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud at the upcoming draft.
Without a doubt, it would take a record-setting amount of first-round picks exchanged to land a world-class generational athlete like Mahomes. Fortunately for Kansas City fans, the two-time league MVP and 27-year-old isn’t going anywhere. But hey, it’s still fun to imagine whacky trade scenarios such as this one.
