According to Jeff Howe of the Athletic, 2021 could be the final season in Cleveland for Browns WR Odell Beckham.
The Browns and Beckham have struggled to make things work the past two seasons. Beckham tore his ACL last November and has had a lengthy rehab. He’s also struggled to build chemistry with QB Baker Mayfield and has four catches total in the last two games.
Because of that, a “dream” scenario has been laid out for the Cleveland Browns that sends Odell Beckham Jr. to the Detroit Lions.
Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated writes that the Browns sends Beckham to the 0-7 Lions for a pair of third-round picks. Here’s what SI had to say about the hypothetical trade:
“The Browns love long-term thinking and have some talent on the roster, including Donovan Peoples-Jones who, while not a one-for-one replacement of Beckham’s skill set, is more of a conservative fit for Cleveland’s run-first offense. Meanwhile, Beckham would arrive as an ambassador for the Lions’ next quarterback.”
Odell is set to count $15 million against the cap for Cleveland in 2022 and 2023. The 28-year-old was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. The Giants traded Beckham to the Browns in 2019 for the No. 17 overall pick, their second third-round pick and S Jabrill Peppers.
Odell Beckham Jr. might have played his final game with the Browns, as Beckham’s representation is engaged with Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry on the next steps for the wide receiver. He was told not to attend Wednesday’s practice, one day after his father posted comments on social media trashing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Coach Kevin Stefanski said: “I would just tell you today he is excused and we will see where this goes.”
In 2021, Beckham has appeared in three games for the Browns and caught nine of 19 targets for 124 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
