Geno Smith is projected to be the ninth-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL next season, with Sportrac reporting the Seattle Seahawks star is in line for a two-year deal worth $78.6 million.
Smith will be a free agent at the end of the current term and should attract lots of attention after leading his team to the playoffs and winning his first Pro Bowl honors. The 10-year veteran has been one of the best QBs in 2022/23, having won the starting job over Drew Lock in training camp.
The 32-year-old led the league in completion percentage while ranking fourth in passing touchdowns and fifth in passer rating.
Smith’s campaign is surely worthy of a huge contract but his value could be skewed by the fact that Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, and Jimmy Garoppolo will all be free agents in the offseason as well. Derek Carr is also likely to be on the market after the Las Vegas Raiders shut him down.
There’s also the fact that it took him 10 years to put in a productive season, but there’s every chance the player earns himself some significant bank in 2023.
