It’s like 2016 all over again.
U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the NFL’s most high-profile offseason issues once again that will lead to kneeling by multiple teams in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Trump first called out Dr. Anthony Fauci, who recently said he’s skeptical about the league’s plan to return amid COVID-19, and then threatened the league with losing his viewership if players don’t stand for the Anthem and flag.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, stated earlier this week that if the NFL didn’t do something similar to what the NBA was planning to do, it would be hard for him to see the 2020 NFL season happening.
“Unless players are essentially in a bubble – insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day – it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall,” Fauci said.
OTAs and minicamp were canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
