The Pittsburgh Steelers badly needed a change and they made it this week.
On Tuesday morning, it was reported that the team was firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada, coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday.
“Matt Canada has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator. I appreciate Matt’s hard work and dedication and I wish him the best moving forward in his career,” Tomlin said in a statement.
Tomlin evidently felt it was time for a change despite defending Canada earlier this season. Gerry Dulac notes Steelers owner Art Rooney II was involved in the decision as well.
Matt Garafolo added that QB coach Mike Sullivan will take over as the play-caller. RB coach Eddie Faulkner will have the title of interim OC and speak to the media during the week.

Sullivan was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator in 2012 and the New York Giants in 2016. As for Faulkner, he’s a candidate to be the team’s next offensive coordinator moving forward.
This move comes two days after the Steelers managed just 10 points in a dismal loss to Cleveland who only needed to score 13 points to defeat them.
The Steelers (6-4) have remained in playoff contention in spite of an offense that ranks 28th in yards and points.
Canada was in the final year of a three-year contract.
