It’s amazing how the country has completely shifted its opinion on Colin Kaepernick, but sadly it came as a result of a police-related death of an African-American man.
A majority of Americans in 2020 believe commissioner Roger Goodell should issue an apology to Colin Kaepernick, a new survey by the Harris Poll suggests.
In a survey of more than 1,000 people, 61% agreed that Kaepernick deserves an apology from the NFL commissioner, according to Forbes’ Kurt Badenhausen.
It has been four years since Kaepernick played in the National Football League, basically blackballed after he kneeled during the National Anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. Kaepernick and the NFL settled a collusion lawsuit in 2019 where terms were not disclosed.
“Two-thirds of respondents said Goodell’s statement felt insincere and was done just for publicity,while 53% felt it was “too little too late.” The poll was conducted ahead of the NFL’s pledge of $250 million over ten years to “support the battle against the ongoing and historic injustices faced by African-Americans.”
Goodell has since released a video where he acknowledged the NFL was “wrong for not listening” to players who began protesting in 2016, though he didn’t mention Kaepernick by name.
