More details continue to trickle out about the stabbing death of C.J. Beathard’s brother in Nashville that killed another man as well. Police have identified a third stabbing victim, additional suspected persons of interest and some clarification over what sparked the incident.
It had been reported that Clayton Beathard and Paul Trapeni III were stabbed to death outside of a Midtown Nashville bar over an argument about a girl.
“The fatal stabbings appear to have resulted from an argument over a woman that began inside Dogwood Bar and then turned physical when the parties went outside,” a press release from the Metro Nashville Police Department stated. “Multiple persons were involved in the outdoor fight during which the two men were both fatally stabbed in their sides.”
More details have since emerged, with reporter Clay Travis stating the pair were killed when the assailant groped a girl friend of the victims, leading to them defending her and telling the suspect to stop.
Police also stated it appears that the fight was over an “unwanted” advance made “by a man toward a woman in the bar.”
“The Dogwood Bar at 1907 Division Street are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying four persons, three men and a woman, wanted for questioning in the case. From black and white surveillance video inside the bar, the four persons appear to be acquaintances,” a press release from police reads. “Two of the men, one wearing a Nike sweatshirt, the other a puffy jacket, are seen in the video standing in front of a booth in the center of the bar. The other man and the woman are at the bottom of the video and eventually join their friends in front of the booth.”

The Beathard family released a statement Saturday to The Tennessean newspaper of Nashville.
“It’s times like this I wish had Instagram and social media because the love and prayers have been so overwhelming. We cannot possibly thank you at the rate they come in texts and phone calls,” the statement read. “Clay was an amazing, big and soft-hearted human being with an undeniable love for the Lord. He had his family’s, friends’ and teammates’ backs even to a fault. I wish he would have been more inclined to take the high road but he hated ‘wrong.’
The statement added: “Yes, he was stubborn sometimes but mostly because his beliefs were strong. He lived a full life except for the chance at being the incredible father I knew he would have been. He loved kids, underdogs and the less fortunate. His little sister was his world and his love and pride for his older brothers was off the charts. He will be missed. That is an understatement. Nobody’s light shined like his when he smiled.”
Beathard was the son of country music songwriter Casey Beathard and the grandson of Pro Football Hall of Fame executive Bobby Beathard.
