The NFL has decided to suspend a Pittsburgh Steelers player for the remaining three games of the 2023 season.
Safety Damontae Kazee’s campaign is over following a scary hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr on Sunday. The hit wasn’t the first big one he’s delivered in 2023, and the league has stepped in with a suspension as he is adjudged to have violated its player safety rules, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“NFL announced it has suspended Steelers’ safety Damontae Kazee for the rest of the season for violating playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared to X on Monday.
The collision, which is shown below, was an ugly one and left the wideout concussed.

The league has released letter explaining the punishment.
Kazee will miss upcoming games against the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Baltimore Ravens.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke up in Kazee’s defense on Monday, insisting the 2018 joint interceptions leader is not a dirty player.
“Usually, I talk about lowering the target,” Tomlin told reporters. “The target was low and both guys were going. It was just unfortunate. I know he is not a dirty player. He doesn’t aspire to do some of the things that came to light under those circumstances.”
