The Pittsburgh Steelers couldn’t reach the NFL playoffs and now they might be without a quarterback for the 2023 season.
Though they won six of their last seven games, a 9-8 record wasn’t enough to clinch a Wild Card ticket in the AFC. This was the first year after Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement.
The season began with Mitch Trubisky as the starter, but head coach Mike Tomlin would have to make the call and bench him in favor of rookie Kenny Pickett.
Kenny Pickett seems to be the front-runner and it appears that Trubisky won’t be back. According to The Athletic, Trubisky was unhappy with how things played out this season.
Pittsburgh can reportedly saved $8 million against the cap if he’s released.
“I expect Mitch will be on the roster next year and be an effective backup if we need him,” owner Art Rooney said last week. “I think he showed that he can be that. We can win with him.”

Expecting him to be back and Trubisky actually doing it are two entirely different things.
In his first season with the Steelers, Trubisky started in five games and passed for 1,252 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions.
