With the No. 1 pick likely to be Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears avoided a bunch of talking points and controversy by finally trading Justin Fields as he is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bears sent Justin Fields to the Steelers on Saturday in exchange for a conditional sixth-round 2025 draft pick.
With the Bears seemingly destined to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick, Fields will now get a fresh start in a new place. That new place might exactly not be in Pittsburgh even though he was traded there.
Pro Football Talk reported that the Steelers could exercise some patience and wait for a team in the league to have an injury to a starter and are desperate enough to come calling them for a trade for Fields.
That could potentially net them a good player or two or possibly a nice draft or picks in the future.
Before the Steelers pulled the trigger for the former Ohio State quarterback, there were at “At Least” four teams aside from them that had expressed interest in trading for Fields. However, his representatives preferred that the young quarterback not be sent to any of those teams and told Chicago he wanted to join the Steelers, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Even if the situation doesn’t arise and Justin Fields decides to bolt after the 2024 season, the Steelers are still in a good position to get a draft pick as explained by Pro Football Talk.
“Ultimately, if he leaves as a free agent after 2024, the Steelers would potentially get a compensatory draft pick in 2026 — balancing out the sixth-round pick in 2025 that they gave up for him.”
The Ideal Situation For Justin Fields
Justin Fields sorely needed a new beginning to his career and the Pittsburgh Steelers could provide that for him. The team may be rolling with Russell Wilson for now, but he will be 26 years old this year and is clearly not the future of the team.
Bad play or an injury could get Justin Fields his much-needed chance to show that he has the tools to be a star and just needed the right head coach in Mike Tomlin and a winning atmosphere in Pittsburgh to get the job done.
