Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett’s future has become the subject of speculation recently, which is why the team just made a decision on him this week.
The Kenny Pickett era in Pittsburgh will continue as the team plans to build around him.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Pickett recently spent time with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to make sure both of them are on the same page.
Fowler shared the latest on Sunday morning.
“Even as they sort out their quarterback outlook, the Steelers have started the process of rebuilding third-year passer Kenny Pickett. I’m told new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith recently spent time with Pickett in South Florida and that the two had a “great” meeting,” he reported on Sunday.
“The sentiment among many here in Indy — including some with the team — was that Pickett could get another chance after a disastrous 2023 season due in part to the offense’s overall struggles under then-OC Matt Canada. Smith should help maximize Pickett’s skill set.”
The Steelers have been linked to Justin Fields, J.J. McCarthy, and a few other veteran options such as Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins. However, the team still might re-sign Mason Rudolph and run everything back for the upcoming season.
Pickett is 14-10 as a starter in the NFL. In total, he has 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 62.6% completion percentage.
