The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without Trevor Lawrence for some time after getting hit by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.
The brutal incident occurred in the second quarter of Jacksonville’s loss to Houston. The quarterback scrambled out of the pocket on second-and-7 and slid near the line of gain.
He signaled he was giving himself up, but Azeez Al-Shaair still blew him up. The quarterback’s head snapped back, hitting the turf violently. His hands then went into a fencing position, which is a signal that he was unconscious.
In the aftermath, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his wife have spoken out.
Marissa Lawrence, Trevor’s wife, thanked those who reached out to her.
“Thank you for all of the texts and prayers,” she wrote in a post on her Instagram Stories. “Just taking time to make sure he’s okay and get healthy but we appreciate all of the love and support.”

Dr. Chris Nowinski, a leading neurologist and co-founder of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, also offered his opinion on the matter while expressing concerns.
“Brutal hit on Trevor Lawrence. His stiff arms and legs are the ‘fencing response,’ meaning he is knocked out,” Nowinski posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Hope he’s OK. This happens way too much with sliding QBs. What’s the answer? Greater penalties? Is that fair? This can’t continue.”
The violent nature of the hit sparked an immediate on-field brawl, with players from both teams rushing to defend their teammates.
Al-Shaair was ejected, while Jaguars defensive back Jarrian Jones was also tossed for his actions.
The Jaguars QB completed four passes for 41 yards before he had to come out of the game.
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence Is In The Concussion Protocol
Trevor Lawrence’s return to play didn’t last long for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Sunday, he was forced out of action because of a big hit in the second quarter. Lawrence was quickly ruled out with a concussion, and now he is in concussion protocol, which means he is likely to miss at least one or more games.
