NFL fans are convinced that some big news is coming out of Arlington after Mike McCarthy and head coach Dak Prescott were seen walking out of Dallas Cowboys practice together in a very cheerful mood.
The Cowboys kick off their season against Myles Garrett’s Cleveland Browns at
Huntington Bank Field on Sunday. Surprisingly, Dallas and Dak Prescott still haven’t agreed on a new deal as he heads into his contract year.
But has something changed, or is something on the verge of completion? The Athletic’s Jon Machota shared a photo of McCarthy and Prescott smiling joyfully at practice:

Prescott is entering the fourth and final year of a $160 million extension he signed in the 2021 offseason. It’s worth noting that Prescott’s deal carries no-trade and no-tag clauses, meaning he has the choice to test free agency next March.
The 31-year-old Dak Prescott is coming off a career year in which he second in MVP voting behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Prescott completed 69.5 percent of pass attempts for 4,516 yards and a league-leading 36 touchdowns.
McCarthy is also heading into his contract year, and it’s widely assumed that owner Jerry Jones will make a change at head coach if the Cowboys don’t go on a deep playoff run this year. Dallas is 1-3 in the postseason under McCarthy despite three straight 12-win seasons.
Dak Prescott Will Be Paid Handsomely By Somebody
The main questions are who will pay Dak Prescott, and when. Seeing how the quarterback market has played out this offseason, it’s clear as day that Prescott will earn well over $200 million on his next contract.
Of course, a season similar than the one he posted a year ago will only increase the figure on his next deal.
