The former Washington Redskins finally went through with their much-anticipated name change….sort of.
The franchise is attempting to remove all traces of its former logo from physical and digital spaces by the season-opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, so they announced on Thursday that it will now go by the “Washington Football Team.”
The name will serve as a placeholder until the franchise can decide on an official team name, however, the classic gold and burgundy color scheme will remain the same. The logo on the helmets will be replaced by player numbers as the team relies on the community and its players to pick a more permanent solution.
Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch shared a photo of what the field design at FedEx Field should look like under the rebranding. Gone is the traditional logo in the center of field, and in its place will be the NFL logo.
As for the end zones, they will no longer feature the team’s nickname in big, bold letters. Instead, the word “Washington” will be painted and the words “Football Team Est. 1932” will be printed in much smaller print underneath.

The team abandoned its prior nickname earlier this month after sponsors threatened to drop the team.
