The New Orleans Saints have lost Jameis Winston for the season and their season could be turned upside down as a result. The starting quarterback suffered a torn ACL and MCL damage during Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After the news broke on Monday, many started to speculate whether they would seek the help of an outisde QB who just played last season.
Longtime NFL quarterback Philip Rivers is retired, but ESPN insider Chris Mortensen mentioned Rivers as a potential candidate for the Saints on SportsCenter Monday. Rivers has since taken his talents to coaching, but his team’s season has just ended.
Rivers’ St. Michael’s high school team finished 6-3, marking the school’s first winning season. The six victories were more than the five wins the team had in its previous four seasons.

QB Josh Murphy finished 14-of-22 passing for 162 yards and four TDs as the Cardinals defeated Millry 48-6 on Wildcat Hill on Friday night.
Rivers has stated he’d be up for another year in the NFL if the right opportunity presented itself. He remains one of the most-accomplished quarterbacks of his generation even if his Chargers and Colts teams never found much postseason success.
“I’m getting back there, I’m not quite there yet. I wouldn’t have made weight if we had to report last week,” Rivers told the Los Angeles Times’ Sam Farmer back on Aug. 5. He expressed optimism in whether he could get into football shape on short notice but made it clear he isn’t pursuing any NFL opportunities, with a couple of conditions needing to be met for him to consider it: “One, to have somebody want you, two, it’s gotta be right. I have not completely ruled that out.”
For now, the Saints will stick with what they have at the quarterback position.
